To be honest, in French "lapin" means both rabbit and bunny so I never thought too much about it since for us it makes no difference... However I was highly surprised when I found out Alice in Wonderland's character wasn't a "lapin blanc" (white rabbit/bunny) in the original version, but "March hare" (that would then get translated as "lièvre de mars" in our language) x_x"'
