Sometimes I actually like the idea of a software dongle--I think it'd be a preferable solution to Vocaloid's current reliance on the unique ID of your HD or NIC card. With a dongle, you don't have to be so worried about deactivating your software BEFORE there's an issue. The main detraction of the dongle is that it consumes a USB port.
That said, CEViO and Piapro NT both have purely software-based solutions that are better than Vocaloid's, so a dongle isn't the only alternative.
