I think it does affect the power of the voice to some degree and adds some clarity if needed

What vocaloid were you using? Some might not have very extreme reaction to it compared to others. I heard it helps Sonika a lot.

Kiyoteru. It helps for Oliver, since his voice is really muted even at his default brightness; it doesn't seem to do anything for Kiyoteru, it just makes him louder/quieter. I'm wondering now if it's just a more drastic way to change the singer's volume. For one of my WIPs, I set Oliver's brightness high as always and lowered Len's so as to not overpower him, and now it's just a mess because Oliver's way louder while Len's voice isn't any gentler but XSYing any further and raising his brightness back up either 1.) doesn't change anything or 2.) makes him sound even worse.

I don't know. I just feel dumb.

Hm, I have trial for Kiyoteru so if it still works I'll try checking it out later.

Btw, if you want to make Len's voice gentler maybe try working with the styles and exciter parameter in V5?
