Note that the video in particular is focused mainly on V2. It doesn't make much of a difference in the long run; the only major difference is if you're registering a V1 Voiceroid, you won't have to change any settings in VOICEROID itself and can just hit next right away instead. You also won't need to worry about selecting a preset if you're rendering straight from V1.
VOICEROID and Suzumofu's programs (KotonoSync and KotonoTone, among others) are Windows-based. I don't know if either of them are compatible with any other OS, and I can't help troubleshoot issues if not.
