Tutorial Studio One - Splitting a Bus into Two Identical Copies

It seems like I've seen lots of people ask about how to split a bus into two separate, duplicate busses (so, the 2 new busses are basically copies of the original) in Studio One, but not a lot of places where there's an answer.

It's actually very simple.
  1. Add two busses alongside the original one.
  2. Add two sends to the original bus, each pointing to one of the new busses. This will send a copy of the original bus's audio to the two new busses.
  3. Click the plug icon on the right of each send to make it pre-fader. (The plug will turn yellow when pre-fader mode is activated.) This means that the signal is sent to the new buses before it is affected by the volume control on the original bus. Notably, the signal seems to be sent after any effects you might add under inserts.
  4. Turn down the volume of the original bus to negative infinity--don't mute it, because if you mute it, no signal will be sent to the new busses. (Apparently, muting affects the new busses despite using pre-fader mode. So muting apparently isn't the same thing as reducing the volume to negative infinity.)
    • Technically, there's no requirement that you do this, but if you don't turn the volume down, you'll actually have 3 copies of the signal.
      • This might make you wonder why I didn't just add one send to the original bus, if I wanted two signals. In my case, I was looking to pan my new busses to opposite sides of the stereo field, so I wanted to make two "equal" children, since I assumed that if I just used a single send, panning the original bus might impact the new bus as well.
With this setup, effects that need to be applied to both of the new busses can be put on the inserts of the original bus. Each bus can also be given its own effects independently.

You may need to close/reopen Studio One after doing this. Mine acted weird afterwards--when I'd mute one of the new busses, it would somehow mute all the sound of the instrument, as though sound was only coming out of one of the new busses. And the behavior would move between the new busses as I'd mute/unmute them. Closing/reopening Studio One seemed to fix that. I'm not sure if that behavior is reproducible/some kind of bug, or just a fluke.
