Hasn't this been considered a problem since the V3 era of Vocaloid? Because I remember people complaining about V3 voicebanks sounding too "samey" back in the day (though the routine glut of releases didn't help.)
Going back on topic, is it just me or does Karin's SynthV sound a bit like ONE?
I feel the same way regarding German. People are too quick to dismiss it as too "angry/harsh" sounding when it can sound stunning in different contexts.
I think some elements of the Crypton formula are still around today (knee to thigh high socks and boots, detached sleeves, a general futuristic vibe etc.), but on the whole, I'm glad companies are trying out new character designs that break away from the Crypton/Miku mold.
I know I'm going off-topic now, but speaking as a new research student in History, I can attest that competitiveness/a "sink or swim" attitude is prevalent everywhere in academia nowadays, not just Science or the rest of STEM. The same pressure to churn out new research is sadly also common...
Maghni is clearly still in alpha, so I'm not surprised the current samples sound like that. Though I do agree it does bring to mind 'I Feel Fantastic'. ^^;

I agree that death has become a cheap excuse to write out characters in modern media. And that's not even counting the moments where characters die for a bit, only to be brought back later.
