The gist of the article appears to be that Crypton possibly wants Miku to sound like "Miku" at this point rather than Saki Fujita (I.e. a truly distinct character rather than just a voice acted avatar), and perhaps V5 was processing realistic results that sounded too much like Fujita rather than...
English: I picked Ellie in the poll, but really it's a toss-up between Ellie and Solaria.
Chinese: Right now, it's Qingsu. I'm blown away by her quality.
Japanese: Another toss-up between Saki and Maki.
Future: I'm still interested in the English male that was demo'd a while back.
Speaking as someone who got into the fandom when she around 11 or 12 back in 2008, I'd say Vocaloid initially attracts kids and teens because of the cute and cool avatars, only for them to stick around for the songs and the fan content. I can still remember my initial reaction to Miku basically...
VY1 is a high quality, versatile bank that Yamaha continues to support, so that's probably why producers still use her regularly. I'm not entirely sure if the wider fandom really does vibe with avatar-less VBs considering how some Saki videos give her an avatar anyway.
I'm surprised Kafu gained so much popularity really quickly, despite the PR issues surrounding her. I guess Japanese producers really vibed with her regardless of what happened. Saying that, all of those promo demos by big producers probably helped a lot.
I've voted for unique voice too. The vocal synth market is way more crowded than even ten years ago, and I now have a hard time remembering VBs because there's so many of them that sound similar to each other. It's kinda rare we do get a truly unique-sounding VB like Flower nowadays.
I mostly stick to non-poseable figures these days, but if I had more time for photography, I guess I would collect more poseable ones? Another issue I find with poseable figures is that any accessories attached to them tend to fall off, especially when I'm trying to dust them.
It's also very rare to see a band last with all its original members intact to the present day, assuming nobody has died in the meantime. The only band I can think of right now where there hasn't been a single lineup change over the years they've been active is Rammstein, and even they've...
I agree that technological advancements, including the internet, have made it way easier for artists to work solo without the need to rely on a band, but I think much of the "death of bands" discussion is genre specific. For example, bands are still thriving and will always thrive in rock and...
When I got into Vocaloid as a young'un, I was all about the fandom/kayfabe aspect in relation to the avatars, but I had a lot of my own headcanons transplanted on top of the most common fan and "canon" depictions. (I.e. Blue of Mind!Miku is happy and cheerful in line with most fandom...
Ellie has always reminded me of Avanna in that while both voices sound pleasant enough, they both sound too soft to be true "all-rounder" VBs that can fit in well with most genres. Louder genres drown their voices out.
I dunno why, but Ellie AI reminds me of how V1 and early V2 Engloids would sound without the right tuning - a bit flat and lacking emotion. I agree with everyone who's said they like her tone, but I'm really wondering now if you can get more power out of the AI bank (and I'm aware Ellie Standard...
The one musical I still objectively adore to this day is Jeff Wayne's War of the Worlds. The Martian noises used to scare the crap outta me as a kid ("ULLAAAAAA!!"), but now I really appreciate the prog rock score. 'Forever Autumn' still moves me to tears to this day. I'm still waiting on a...
I wasn't planning to check on the Fee thread again after all the drama surrounding her, but her voice is definitely... Erm... Not what I expected, but at the same time, exactly what I expected a fetish character to sound like? I dunno how else to explain it, but it still caught me off guard.
Oh, I like the design already! I'm being cautiously optimistic right now considering what happened with Kafu, but Sekai seems to be more of a separate character from the VP, so hopefully, Kamitsubaki have learned from Kafu.
Oh, this demo sounds a lot better! ONE sounds more like her usual self, rather than strangely pitchy, and the engine noise is minimal (if still present, as usual because CeVIO).
New IA demo:
It's a self-cover, but IA's voice here isn't doing it for me, and you can hear CeVIO's engine way more prominently, like with the recent ONE demo. Also, in some parts, I keep thinking IA sounds like ONE, but in a bad way?
In some parts, I honestly thought IA sounded really similar to Lia, so I can't knock CeVIO AI here, even if it is probably Ciel's tuning doing all the hard work. You can still hear CeVIO's engine twang sometimes, but it doesn't bother me here and I've kinda conceded that will always be a problem...
At first, I thought Anri Rune had come back from the dead on SynthV lol. Still, a new English VB is a great surprise. I really like her voice so far; it's distinct from Eleanor, Maki and Solaria (which isn't difficult to do right now for obvious reasons, but still).
