I'll add to this by saying AI should be the biggest new feature in V6, since it's obvious now that's where the future of singing synthesis is heading, and it could bring some attention back to Vocaloid if AI banks existed. (AI VYs, Cybers and V5 starters, anyone?) Of course, that depends whether...
Westerners have always been creeped out by voice synthesis in general, let alone singing synths - just look at some comments on any videos featuring the IBM 7094 singing 'Daisy Bell', or that one meme featuring Miriam singing "I feel fantaaastiiic~". (Admittedly, the latter is pretty sinister...
I agree that the voice sounds like Flower, but without that "cotton balls in her mouth" sound she has on Vocaloid. Truth be told, I think it will be a new character that just happens to share Flower's voice type.
I like the idea behind Chris's voice type (suitable for RnB songs, and can pull off falsetto notes to boot), but in execution, he sounds like a male V5 version of Sonika without the attributes that made her charming. It's kinda hard to explain if you haven't heard him extensively. orz
Speaking as an old lady by this fandom's standards, it's weird for me to think that kids have been getting into Vocaloid through the more recent games. I can still remember when the very first Project Diva was announced, and I was pissed because it was on PSP and not the DS lol.
I played the hell out of it when it came out (because HOLY SHIT, a translated Miku game on a Nintendo system!), but since I moved onto the Switch a few years back, it's been sitting on my shelf. It's a PAL copy too, and PAL versions of Mirai DX have exploded in price on the secondhand market...
I can't ever see vocal synths taking off in the Western mainstream the same way they did in Japan. Many people still see text-to-speech programs as something amusing or sinister, let alone singing synths. A good example might be the explosion in AI TTS programs that use samples from fictional...
This was still back when Crypton's characters were called Vocaloids, so they probably weren't too fussed about collabs with other companies' Vocaloids back then. I'm not sure what Crypton's stance on collabs is now, considering they're labelling their characters under the Piapro banner.
That kind of thing has sadly happened within the vocal synth community, but I consider it a small price to pay to keep things focused on the art rather than personal indiscretions.
Not sure if this was the best place to put this, but it was meant to be a profile post until it became way too long. And considering this is an unpopular opinion related to music...
I'd say Meiko, Kaito and Luka would fit the best for AI since they have more "realistic" sounding VBs, rather than Miku, Rin and Len who are all clearly voice acted. Saying that, I wouldn't be opposed to AI versions of Miku, Rin and Len either, simply because I'd like to hear the end results of...
I wouldn't be surprised if more VBs on other synths jumped to SynthV in the future. It feels like its technological capabilities are rapidly improving with every update now, and with the cross-language support for all AI banks, it's now leaps and bounds ahead of Vocaloid, CeVIO, AIVoice, etc.
SynthV has become OP now, and I'm scared lmao.
More seriously, I hope this means it will be less of a hassle to implement future languages into SynthV, since technically you won't need to record separate language banks anymore. Okay, I just really want to hear German and Russian results with...
I can't see Yamaha dropping V6 next year - in fact, we haven't heard any internal rumblings or leaks about a V6. Yamaha's current plans for Vocaloid seem to be leaning more towards experimental projects like Charlie, which don't necessarily need engine updates to stay fresh. The traditional...
The gist of the article appears to be that Crypton possibly wants Miku to sound like "Miku" at this point rather than Saki Fujita (I.e. a truly distinct character rather than just a voice acted avatar), and perhaps V5 was processing realistic results that sounded too much like Fujita rather than...
English: I picked Ellie in the poll, but really it's a toss-up between Ellie and Solaria.
Chinese: Right now, it's Qingsu. I'm blown away by her quality.
Japanese: Another toss-up between Saki and Maki.
Future: I'm still interested in the English male that was demo'd a while back.
Speaking as someone who got into the fandom when she around 11 or 12 back in 2008, I'd say Vocaloid initially attracts kids and teens because of the cute and cool avatars, only for them to stick around for the songs and the fan content. I can still remember my initial reaction to Miku basically...
