Hello,

for I am a very beginner I have a - silly? - question: How can Eleonor Forte sing a "Uuuuuh" for an English pop background choir? By writing I hear the english word "you". So I tried a lot combinations and now use [hhou] which sounds a bit like "how", but in fact it's not "Uuuuuh".

Has anyone an idea?

Thanks, and sorry for my poor English

i say this assuming you use Synthesizer V Studio Pro-

i think i would typically write that sound as "oooo" if its the same sound coming from "you", hopefully im understanding right. the simplest way to get figure out what real word you want a sound from while not knowing the program's phonemes would be to make a note and type in the word "you" and then edit out the consonant phoneme on the note, being 'y'. the phoneme you should be left with on the note is "uw". from there you can add notes with a "-" phoneme to stretch it.
this sound can easily be obtained by entering the lyric "oo" into a note, for future reference! but literally typing in a word that sounds similar can be helpful if you dont know what the phoneme might be.

In case you dont know how to edit the phonemes and not the word of a note- there should be some letters above your note after you enter words, double click that space. or click on the music note icon on the right panel, select your note- it is the note properties and you can also see a box that says "phonemes" where you can change it too.

i recommend experimenting with vowel phonemes to get other sounds if you're confused, combining some as well. as far as i am aware synthesizer v (studio pro, at least) doesnt have a phoneme chart to refer to in the program but on windows it can be found at this location on your pc C:\Program Files\Synthesizer V Studio Pro\clf-data . its not the best explanation for non-english speakers sadly but itll at least tell you all the phonemes.

can you be more clear? what is not working? "uw" is the phoneme you are probably looking for if it is the sound from "you" that you desire. and as mentioned, typing in the lyric "oo" will give the same phoneme result. if you reference the phoneme chart within the program files (ill be glad to copy/past it here too), enter the vowel phonemes into a note and you will eventually find what you are looking for because it is a vowel sound you need.

[uw] makes a "you", but a uuuuh-choir which is supposed to sound like the ironic exclamation of fright ("uhh, I'm really scared"), does not sing "you", but the pure "u" without preceding "yo", like the letter is pronounced in German (pursed lips).

maybe use Avox Throat or do some precise EQ’ing to morph/shape the vowel towards your desired sound? Some things just aren’t possible without outside intervention. Hope you manage to find the right phonemes, though!

i think you are looking for a different sound then? not the sound from the english word "you"! if i think of an exclamation with being scared i hear "aah", hopefully i understand correctly, but that sound can be voiced differently. try typing in the phonetic "ae" instead or possibly "ah". both are similar. there is also "aa" phoneme too, which is not as strong as the others. enter them as phonemes, not lyrics

theres a lot of vowels worth trying for that sound as its kind of specifc to what you may want. its hard to get across the sound i am thinking of through text so, i will list them
aa
ae
ah
ao
ax
ow
uh

No, only the last part from "you" - "you"!

I don't know how English people would describe this. Just listen to the background choir of "Surfin' USA" from The Beach Boys from 0:03 - 0:25:

I downloaded Eleanor and tested different combinations.
"uh w" is the closest thing I could get to ü.
(Eleanor's "uw" phoneme has a weird, loud noise at the beginning, so that won't work.)

If you write "-" as a lyric (not a phoneme), it extends the previous vowel.

Video clip so you can hear:

(I just called it the "uw test" even though it's technically "uh w" because the sound is hard to describe in English)

yes you may need to edit some parameters to get the sound you want, because the sound i hear in that song, and from what i was understanding, is the "uw" phoneme or "uh" phoneme, though "uw" isnt voiced exactly the way you want, to possibly cut out the desirableness part of a note's sound. eleanor's pronunciation is very exact to those phonemes so the best option it to probably mess with other vowel phonemes together or see what can be editted with parameters further.
