I’m not in a position where I have to use male characters to express my sexuality anymore. I haven’t been in a long time. So how much of this is a holdover from my childhood, and how much is it a potential identity thing?

In high school, a friend encouraged me to explore my gender identity, and I kicked around the idea that I might be bigender. I ultimately decided I was just as content to identify as a tomboyish cis girl, and in the years since then I’ve shed my tomboyisms and have embraced the traditionally girlier interests I shunned growing up — pink, dresses, cute accessories, makeup, nails, if Teenage Peaches saw Adult Peaches she’d be horrified, but I’m happy. And yet I still identify so much more strongly with male and masculine-presenting characters.

I dunno. Maybe I’m overthinking it. But this has been such a constant for me that I can’t help but wonder.

:akasakiminato_lili::akasakiminato_lili::akasakiminato_lili: It’s never too late to experiment with identify, especially if it will help you find your true self. You don’t have to cling on to typical symptoms to identify with something either, just try things out and maybe you’ll discover a label that you feel comfortable with. You don’t even have to have a label if you can’t put your finger on it! There are people in their 60s who question their identities, so it never is too late, especially now that you’re out of your parent’s house. You’re a free bird, so fly far, and maybe you’ll bump into something along the way.

Admittedly, the world of gender identities is still quite foreign to me. I’m fine identifying as a cis woman, but I feel like it’s more… nuanced, if that makes sense? I’d like to explore potential labels or definitions to help me put those nuances into words, but I have no idea where to start. 😅

demi girl maybe?

I've questioned my gender identity as well in the past (at separate points, I've wondered if I was FtM trans or non-binary), but in the end, I've settled down as a tomboyish cisgender girl as well. But it took me until my early 20s to realise I was bi. There's definitely no time limit on thinking about identities, especially if you absolutely don't or can't vibe with the "default" of being straight and cis. Gender and sexuality are a lot more nuanced than most people think they are.

Demigirl is close I think, but… hmm. It’s not necessarily that I only partially identify as female. I wholly identify as such, but I also experience a lesser but present masculine identity alongside it, if that makes sense? I wouldn’t call that part of my identity a tomboy at this point, because it’s less about being a woman and doing masculine things and more that I’m a woman who also identifies with the inherent concept of masculinity, not as a social construct or anything centered around actions, but as a gender in and of itself.

…maybe I AM thinking too deeply into this. 😅 I’m not dissatisfied with identifying as cis, but I think my relation to masculine-presenting genders is stronger than just “I grew up playing games as a guy because I like girls.” Whether I’m not cis or whether it’s something else, I’m just interested in pinpointing it!

Do you feel like your gender fluctuates regularly or does it stay consistent? If it doesn’t, you could be a demi boy, which is connecting somewhat to masculinity while still being connected to another identity (girl, agender, or otherwise)
