It’s never too late to experiment with identify, especially if it will help you find your true self. You don’t have to cling on to typical symptoms to identify with something either, just try things out and maybe you’ll discover a label that you feel comfortable with. You don’t even have to have a label if you can’t put your finger on it! There are people in their 60s who question their identities, so it never is too late, especially now that you’re out of your parent’s house. You’re a free bird, so fly far, and maybe you’ll bump into something along the way.
In high school, a friend encouraged me to explore my gender identity, and I kicked around the idea that I might be bigender. I ultimately decided I was just as content to identify as a tomboyish cis girl, and in the years since then I’ve shed my tomboyisms and have embraced the traditionally girlier interests I shunned growing up — pink, dresses, cute accessories, makeup, nails, if Teenage Peaches saw Adult Peaches she’d be horrified, but I’m happy. And yet I still identify so much more strongly with male and masculine-presenting characters.
I dunno. Maybe I’m overthinking it. But this has been such a constant for me that I can’t help but wonder.
