It was like test, experimental vb iirc, those weren't 100% Teto samples, most likely spliced with Miku samples to make her more functional in the editor, as well as being layer with Miku's vocal too, it was fun experiment but most likely not a good basis to judge what Teto would sound like on Vocaloid. The unofficial illegal port floating around sounds pretty much exactly like her but with shabby quality.

Teto SynthV has made me a lot more confident about supporting future Vocaloid/UTAU conversions! I was worried that SynthV was restricted to realistic, neutral voices; but Teto shows that this was just down to Dreamtonic's choice of voice providers, not a limitation of the software. They preserved her character very well. For the first time I think an AI Miku could genuinely work if handled carefully.

I noticed the Crypton thing in the license, but I assumed it had more to do with Teto's rights existing as a Piapro character instead of development assistance. I assumed the development assistance came from AHS given the higher demands of developing for SynthV vs the homebrew Twindrill is used to (and their logos on everything). Where do I learn more about Crypton's input? That is a cool prospect. I guess that long-term relationship paid off for Twindrill. :)

But you are 100% right. There was a small clip of what was apparently VOCALOID Teto from symphony (IIRC?) a long time ago. Wish I could pull it up now. And it didn't sound like her. (ninja'd on that. makes sense it had miku samples. it was very miku-y) They did say that it didn't work for them. So I was really really surprised when SynthesizerV retained so much of Teto's iconic tone, especially when other voices on the engine have had mixed success. It gives me the feeling that this product truly was created with a lot of care.

Other Crypton characters going to SynthV would be the exact opposite of what Crypton said their goals for the product were, but it is notably interesting that Teto, a character that didn't even make it to the same engine as Miku v4 for expression concerns, has been accepted as part of Synthesizer V. And the public response is insanely positive.

EDIT: I've thought a lot about how I would feel if Miku AI existed. A while ago I probably would've said I would be sad. But now, I think I genuinely don't know how they would improve on v4 Miku as a concatenative synth. So yeah, I guess my feelings have shifted a bit. The "side by side" nature of Teto SV and Teto UTAU could work for other characters. But given that apparently Saki Fujita struggles to sing as Miku, I wonder if it'd work at all. Her voice acting clips as Miku are very cute, but, they're not the Miku I know.
