Other Which Vocaloid should I get?

N!ght_0wl

Intense MEIKO, KAITO and flower fan
Well, I’ve been thinking, because I really want to save up for KAITO V3 for my very first voicebank, since I’ve heard he’s easy to use as far as tuning and using him goes, but I was wondering, what other voicebanks should I get? I mean I already have my eye on flower V4, but I mean, I’ve heard she’s difficult to use for English, so I was wondering if anyone had any voicebank recommendations that I could use to get new voices!
what I kinda wanted, but am unsure of:
  • KAITO V3 :kaito_ani_lili:
  • gumi (megpoid) V3 english :gumi_lili:
  • una otomatchi synthV (or v4?) :una_lili:
  • defoko (uta utane) :utaneuta_smile_lili:
  • Kasane Teto (UTAU or SynthV?) :teto_lili:
  • Flower V4:flower_smile_lili:
  • Solaria SynthV (Unsure of which version tho) :solaria_lili:
  • Vy2 V3:vy2_lili:
  • Astarian SynthV (unsure of which version) :asterian_lili:
  • Eleanor forte SynthV :eleanorforte_lili:
  • Kagamine Rin/Len V4x :rin_smile_lIlI::len_smile_lili:
  • Megurine Luka V4x :luka_lili:
  • kamui gakupo V4 :gackpo_smile_lili:
  • Galaco V3 (maybe a different bank?) :galaco_lili:
  • Rana V4 :rana_lili:

Kaito V3 is a fine starter bank, and his English is pretty decent for a JP->ENG bank. Gumi's English can have some of the best results, but you will have to learn her tips and tricks because she is choppy between vowels unless you do some phoneme editing. Not to scare you off, just to let you know!

You could download and try Defoko and UTAU Teto for free right now. But UTAU can be tricky to grasp, so I'd look some guides up if I were you.

Beware that some of those Vocaloid banks aren't for sale anymore officially. Like Galaco V3, you can only buy her V4 now. I'm actually not positive on VY2V3, but I do believe he was discontinued when V5 came out and VY1 and VY2 got rereleases as standard V5 banks. If you specifically want English capability, any of these Japanese-only Vocaloid banks may not be the ideal first option. And the Kagamines' English is kind of muffled, but it could be a fun challenge to work on making them sound the best you can!

SynthV crosslang of course means you could theoretically pick up any bank you and and make them sing in English. Teto's is pretty decent. And of course Solaria and Asterian are native English. SVP1 is no longer being sold, you'd have to buy the SVP2 editor. But if you listen to some recordings and decide you like Solaria (or whoever) SV1 better than SV2, you can buy the SV1 bank and use it in SVP2. They will not have access to a few of the SVP2-new features, such as Korean crosslang.

Essentially: buy who you like most, but be aware of their limitations by language, software, version, etc. And absolutely dive right into trying UTAU out if you're interested, because nothing is cheaper than free! And OpenUtau is a lot more user friendly than OG UTAU, I believe, so it seems like a better time than ever to try UTAU banks out.

OpenUTAU, an open-source program that can run UTAUs, is a popular UTAU alternative with quality of life features which might make the learning process easier! Studio Ogien has some tutorials on their website, just bear in mind they're from a few years ago and the software is updated regularly.

SynthV has a free trial for the software and voices, which I'd strongly recommend playing around with to help you make your decision!

If you are looking for something to play around and cost nothing then OpenUTAU is probably the best option also pick a VBs that more users friendly like Renri or Teto.
However, if you would like to put an investment to get a quality product while keep budget to minimum, SynthV is by far the best option. Their editor and voicebanks quality are second to none. Easy to learn and because of AI support it require very little labor from users which mean it feel more rewarding to use. For VBs recommendation is probably Solaria and my personal favorite is Saki.

Vocaloid is not worth it in my opinion, especially for people who new to tuning.
