  • Essential 101

The practice of minimising everything down to its core, utilising the bare essentials to get the job done efficiently and as quickly as possible, as time is often such a lacking and precious resource.
This sound so close to my original SQ-80 not even funny.. The tonal is not thicc as original and brighter, but this can be use as advantage.
The software synth is very old (13-14yrs) and development of SQ8L has effectively stopped in very long time. Use it as it is.

If you're sound geek, and love to manipulating sound. This synth is really fun..
I think this song is base on the "The Wind Rises (風立ちぬ)" Animation from Studio Ghibli

Keep living no matter how hard.
This is quite hard but fun. As URL suggest, it's a ears training website.
My results is very poor due to my hearing damage.

    Try it

At first I did poorly until I realized my headphones were on the wrong way. After that I scored higher than 70% of other users. I might use this more in the future.

I've work on coding the dither algorithm and i think, i never talk about this "dither" in vvn forum.
This is quite simple but important though, it's actually a wall of text for technical, but I’ll make it as simple as possible

When should you use dither ?

Always use dither when saving out to 16 or 24-bit files.
That’s it.....lol (if it too short, please read the detail below)

The single most misleading piece of advice, which I keep seeing, is “only dither once”.
I do agree you should only use it once within a single DAW application, on the main stereo output – so you don’t need it on every channel, or in-between plugins, for example – but you do need it once when saving your file before mastering, and then again when exporting the final 16-bit master.

So a better rule would be
Always dither – unless you’re staying at 32-bit floating point, in which case once is enough.

Other versions of this advice I often see include only dithering when saving to 16-bit, or only at the mastering stage. Again, I disagree. It’s true that the truncation distortion caused by not using dither at 24-bit is much harder to hear than at 16-bits, but it’s there, and it’s horrible.

So when you’re saving out at 16 or 24-bit before mastering a file, especially more than once, correct dithering is essential.
And if you’re bouncing tracks internally, to remove plugins and reduce CPU overhead – you should definitely dither ! (Unless you’re saving at 32-bit floating point)

There is more technical detail for sure.
If you like it, i will write it, but this should be enough.

Is dithering a function in the DAW or is it a separate plugin?

Most of DAW these day have dither plugin or build-in dither but different dither algorithm some of them are cruel (basic dither algorithm) some of them are well made (have build-in filter).
But, both of them can get the job done. I highly recommend to use only one of them at time when export.
When i start to realize that even a simple utility gain are not sampling that accurate.
I think digital audio is automatically accurate, but that’s far from the truth.

It's not a big deal actually, just a fraction of audio sample but it’s cumulative.

    How to use vocaloid 4

note: Seem like i don't have time anymore. If anyone is interested in helping me finish the tutorial, feel free to contact me.

I already have full time job, working in local studio as apprentice, and... as audio plugins developer. Basically i have to work 10-14 hours per day.
since I get funds from my work, it's not my hobby anymore.

    As always. Stay productive!
