I spend an unhealthy amount of time thinking about things like this lol. I think I'd love to see a 'loid with a cartoonish (rather than anime/moe) voice acted voice with a distinctly western art style that's either comic inspired, or something similar to UPA Revival, Alex Ahad, Uejini/Gashi-Gashi, or Kinuko Cartwright's (careful w/ those last 3 links, their art is a bit spicy!)..kind of a way to give us a cute character that can appeal to the "nerd/geek/otaku" audience without rehashing the same "cute 14 year old schoolgirl" trope we've seen a million times in vsynths already, maybe even a slight chance of attracting people outside of that demographic too.
With a voice like Pinkie Pie or Applejack from MLP..I think an Applejack-like Vocaloid/vsynth would be amazing for country (and country music seems neglected in vocal synth! There are even a decent amount of rap and operaloids now but I can't name any country ones, unless Sweet Ann and Big Al were suggested for it, they kind of give me the vibes, but I don't remember.)
Also said character would ideally be at least 18, we have enough minorloids to last us years lol

If you have any voiceless fanloids or vsynth OCs feel free to post them in this thread! Not UTAU though, I feel those are different since they already have voices.

Yes! country is so neglected! A vocal synth with a distinctly Western and cartoon-inspired aesthetic would be such a breath of fresh air in the vsynth space . You are right though, Sweet Ann and Big Al have the tonal qualities, but neither was specifically aimed at country!

I think I would like to see more Opera inspired vocal synths in general :3

More Celtic vocal synths with different accents! Avanna has a type of Irish accent, but even then Ireland has a ton of regional accents that would be fun to hear in vocal synth form. (Galway? Belfast? Cork? Shall I go on? Or a Limerick accent like Dolores O'Riordan?)

But most of all I think it'd be super interesting to get a Scottish or Welsh-accented vocal. Or more British dialects, like how we have Oliver and Leon for standard Southern British and Sonika for a more Northern accent (IIRC she's supposed to be from around Liverpool)

Or...Canadian Vocaloid, anyone? I know most Canadians have a fairly US-adjacent accent but we just haven't gotten one yet and I think it'd be interesting.

Or a vocal synth with a more obviously audible Australian accent...for some reason both Sweet Ann and Ninezero's accents are very off-and-on

Oh, or more Vocaloids with REGIONAL American English. Most American Vocaloids are very General American and there's not usually much regional distinction. I'd love to hear a Vocaloid with an East Coast accent, or a Texan accent, or even a Cajun accent.

TL;DR more accents please

Also, Big Al and Sweet Ann have country listed among their recommended genres, but they don't necessarily have full-on southern accents to REALLY pull it off without phoneme editing

Oh, and I wholeheartedly agree on the cartoon thing. Would love to see it! (Although does Ruby count toward that? She's designed by a cartoonist and has a pretty nasally voice)

screamo... please.... it is undeniably probably one of the hardest singing styles to achieve in vocal synthesizing right so its no surprise we havent seen it. but i want to see actual hardcore rock/punk/emo singing focused on, i see too much pop punk being considered instead! ninezero has that kinda accented rock/metal genre sound and NOA Hex was also implied to be good for pop punk. but wheres my hardcore? scremo? death metal growls? i hope we can see that happen with more realism. though in general would still be nice to see masculine english vocals aimed towards those genres. too many of them are very "generic" and not specialized in that area of rock.

i also would love to see some more vocals with character designs not in an anime art style- something more akin to American cartoon styles would be nice. honestly, any kind of unique non-anime style is something id love to see, especially when they are non-japanese as it feels like itd be fitting to do that (and then you get anime art anyways...)

Ruby might count a bit! Loved her concept, wish she caught on more. Her newer designs by Misha are so cute and I loved her installer art

I'd say Dex and Daina but they're more anime-styled tbh. Though they kinda give off Western "animesque" show vibes, which is kind of its own thing (ATLA, Totally Spies, etc.). Avanna has a bit of a retro fantasy anime/JRPG look to her.

A deep male native English voice. I dunno if this already exists because i’m not very up-to-date on current Vocaloids, but I feel like we haven’t had one since Big Al, and he’s discontinued.
Maybe an iPad or mobile Vocaloid editor that could connect to a computer in English, so you can work on both mobile and at a computer.
Maybe a new Crypton voicebank? New as in entirely new voicebank, not an upgrade of one of the Crypton 6. As stated above, a deeper male voicebank similar to V1 Kaito/Big Al.

English Vsynths have been getting a lot better at diversity in their character designs (especially Eclipsed Sounds's selection of Synth V vocals), but I feel like character designs and consepts in commercial Vocal Synths still lack in demographic diversity. I really want a woman vocal synth with a decently deep voice and at least in her 20's (though 30's would be preferable). or basically any character older than 25. I'd like more characters from different cultures and ethnicities. I'd love to see a very open transgender commercial synth. i'd love to see physically disabled characters. and i'd like to see any fat vocal synth character at all :']

I feel like a lot of Japanese Vsynth companies have their first release be a cute anime teenager who plays the role of an idol. a lot of the time, these companies have very solid ideas! but it still ends up feeling extremely derivative because they tried to make their own miku instead of filling a niche we crave in characters. i don't throw a fit everytime a character like that is announced, but i still get a bit sad that the character is likely to sink in an ocean full of cute girls, failing commercially and having the newcommer company never attempt another synth afterwords.

Juuust in case you weren't aware, since it seems to have slipped under the radar for some: Saros and Nyl are both nonbinary and are referred to by they/them on their pages. I also think it's fun that, imo, Saros's voice leans a little more masc but their design leans femme. And Nyl's voice seems to lean femme, but their design leans masc. It's a nice contrast. Apologies if those two were who you were specifically talking about with the ES namedrop! But I agree, while anyone on the user end can make avatars as they please for the voices since they're just instruments that can have any picture or none at all, more variety in their default avatars can only be a good thing!

As for myself, I desperately want more accents in the native English banks as well. I love the ones we have, but we can definitely spice it up a lot more. Give me a Scottish bank, a British SV, etc

oh, yeah! I do know about Saros and Nyl being non-binary! i really like that Eclipsed Sounds had their first group of vocal synths have a guy and a girl but also two non-binary characters. probably should've said another openly transgender commercial synth, my bad. (i also know Nyl was designed to be plus sized themself, huge shout out to them.)

But I agree, while anyone on the user end can make avatars as they please for the voices since they're just instruments that can have any picture or none at all, more variety in their default avatars can only be a good thing!
yeah!!! I tend to give physical traits to vocal synths that weren't in their official design and flip flop between traits for different portrayals and AU's. I really love that most companies express that they want their vocal synth characters to be seen in a variety of different ways, even when they do have a canon design.

Kaito is a main example of that for me; I love his canon design, but I also think he fits into pretty much any design change. my main au's main kaito is digital and unaging, but is also a big guy with glasses, and is one of thousands of kaitos in his world with differing appearences. meanwhile my other au has one human kaito who changes his appearence over the years as he ages like a human would. i love the freedom of character expression a lot, and it does take away some of the sting of the general lack of diversity.

For that matter, I'd love to hear Welsh and Irish-accented English VBs! (Avanna's VP was speculated to be from Dublin(?), but you can't really hear an Irish accent in her bank at all). I'd say we have Australian accents covered with Ninezero (though Sweet Ann's VP was supposedly Australian as well, but again you can't really hear an accent in her bank. I don't think Vocaloid could capture distinct accents at all back in the day).
