It's anticompetitive as hell. They basically ran YouTube at a loss for closer to two decades than one, until nearly every major competitor in the space folded, and now they're squeezing it with subscriptions and much more obtrusive advertising.
And on top of that, they they're leveraging their monopoly in the user-video space for a foothold in music streaming, fully expecting people to cancel their Spotify or Apple Music subscription for their bundled service. I'd actually maybe consider paying maybe $5/m for just YouTube if they fixed their recommendations, so I could use the Roku and iOS apps without ads (since ad blockers don't work there, and they constantly revert the video quality setting in Safari) but not $15. And I don't want YT Music. Ever.
