Omegle shut down???? Man.... I feel old now. I just recently thought about the state of the internet and it really hit me hard to realize how much changed in the last 15 years. SO many changes. Back then forums were THE thing, only very few social media sites exited and were very different from today... actually kinda miss oldschool facebook and very very early instagram. I also used MSN Live Messenger!!!! Kids nowadays don't even know what the hell that is, they barely know Skype. You could customize everything everywhere!! Ugh, I miss those times.

@Mika MSN was probably my first social media platform (even though I was only like, 10 and I had no business being on there lol)! I also used a site called Bebo, which was like a British version of MySpace. Crazy how early social media gave you more freedom compared to now. I miss being able to customise channels on YouTube.

I used to hang out on forums a lot too, because I liked the structured and sometimes wordy nature of posts. Nowadays, social media and Discord have pushed traditional forums to the side, which I don't like because they're not as structured, to the point where it's hard to get a word in edgeways.

I was on the actual Myspace back when I was 10 as well 😭 my favorite type of forums were always the roleplay forums. Back then I was the youngest but there were members of all ages, I think the oldest was early 30's? And everyone was so nice and I actually learned so much stuff from those people. Was always fun to sit in chat and wait for the others to finish their posts. And everyone was reading all of the plotlines!! So fun. I miss it a lot. You're right, nowadays everything is so unstructured and so much short form content, it just doesn't feel the same..

idk if you or others read the note on omegle's website, was certainly a good read about current internet culture and its reason for shut down...! regarding tumblr's situation, it might not be as bad as it sounds. it sdoesnt sound great that theyve made the team focused on tumblr smaller. but, said team is supposed to basically focus hard on the things the community actually wants focused on rather than expanding and marketing in relation to what other website expectations are. as in, possibly a pull back on focusing on features that were trying to expand the website outward (tumblr live for example). its shakey that theyd do this, but we may well be seeing changes/focus on things we we really wanted and not see them trying to force all these new things that were being done in order to compete with other social media like twitter or instagram.

still... there is so much uncertainty with the internet right now. and it makes me sad seeing so much of this happen after all my years online and witnessing these changes.
