Someone explained it pretty well a while back (albeit in a manner much more hostile than I felt was necessary): people sometimes complain when Miku is drawn as a POC because she's Japanese. How many Japanese people do you know that have naturally blue/green/teal/aqua(marine)/etc. hair that goes down to their ankles? If you can accept a Japanese person that doesn't have a naturally-occurring hair color, why not a Japanese person who doesn't have light skin?

Maybe some people get mad, because they are obsessed with how they think Miku "should" look/act, even though she has tons of alternate designs/colors and no official personality (not sure how to describe it, she's a voice bank and not some character from a novel), and they think any alternate designs are an attack on their queen?

I literally don't care how people want to spend time expressing themselves and drawing fan art of Miku. Sort of related, but there are also a lot of light novels about Miku and they change her age, location (as in a fantasy world and not Japan or some kind of vaguely European setting or something), they change the kanji for her name, relationships with other Vocaloids, etc. I feel like if seeing alternate fan art offends someone, they need to 1) get a hobby and 2) keep scrolling and leave the artist alone and not take it personally because the picture wasn't meant for them.

Exactly! When I see people complain about artists drawing her in a darker skin tone, I just wanna tell them: You do get that not all Asians have white skin right? I swear they need to go outside or something

imo it's only an issue when people completely throw away the character's japanese ethnicity out of the window ( which I've seen some people do ) but as for Miku?? She's literally meant to be whatever you want her to be so it really doesn't matter at all in this case.
