I think it's mostly in case YOU get sick and have to hole up in your home for 14 days, in order to protect everyone else (especially people who are at a greater risk of having a more serious/deadly case) from your illness. I mean, you wouldn't want to have someone else's death on your conscience, would you?

But there is a lot of confusion, especially since we're still learning about this virus. And with confusion and lack of knowledge, people do get more concerned than they really need to be.

When it comes to foodstuffs I can kind of understand stocking them up of you live alone and have no friends/relatives/neighbours who could shop on your behalf while you're in quarantine (though in that case the council would arrange home delivery of foods and daily necessities). Some grocery shops do home delivery too. Toilet paper is the really weird thing here, it's become a global obsession to people. I bet the people who buy a ton of it can't spend it even in two months.

Yeah, I honestly don't think toilet paper would be the big deal it is if someone or other hadn't gone and said to stock up on it.

I mean, you can't argue that it wouldn't be a bad situation to completely run out of toilet paper when you're unable to leave your home. Logically, it's basically the same as food. But I wonder if people aren't buying too much of it.

The other part of the issue is that China is the big supplier of toilet paper. (Fun fact: IIRC, China invented toilet paper.) So since China's production of TP is down (Though I thought I'd heard it was picking up again, at least for their domestic needs?), there's some thought that the rest of the world might experience shortages. Which honestly makes it even more important that people are realistic about how much they need....

So I think it's not a bad idea to have a running two-week stock of toilet paper, but I'm not sure you need more than that? Except for the shortages issue, which would be exacerbated by people buying more than they can use. So it's a catch-22. Which we might avoid if people would think of others more and only buy what they actually need so others can go to the bathroom, too. Fear and selfishness beget fear and selfishness which beget people whose rear ends smell really bad....

But this is just me rambling; I'm really afraid there might be some obvious point I'm overlooking....
