You'll find plenty of technical information if you search for research papers by Jordi Bonada at Pompeu Fabra University. His 2008 PhD thesis is probably the most complete out of the lot:

Mixing is a skill that literally takes years and years to develop. You just have to keep at it.
But it's also highly individual. There is no correct way to mix a song (but there's definitely a wrong way), and it will take a time to develop your own style and/or methods.
Finally, although this...
Snap-to-scale is a feature that prevents users from entering notes outside of a selected scale. For example, if you were to choose C Major, snap-to-scale would only permit you to enter notes that are found in C Major. All other notes would be disallowed.
Of course, such a feature is only useful...
If it makes you feel any better, the above image posts do appear to break rule 17 of the site rules. So you're not alone in your disdain.

fake edit: Why does the forum software repeat the exclamation mark from the Wikipedia URL and display it below the link?
They certainly do. The image resolution is low, but not low enough to completely hide the waxy appearance that is common for generated images. Although I wouldn't be surprised if some manual touch up took place.
I've never used the Voice-to-MIDI Conversion utility before, but it does required unaccompanied vocals.
Nevertheless, I gave it a shot using the mp3 file linked in the above video description that features one voice in the left and one in the right (both as piano). Unfortunately, there are...
Oh, you were wondering about the gender, not if they were just an actress. I didn't know the voice provider was male as I don't really pay attention to that stuff, only what the voicebank sounds like. But as others have pointed out, Japanese words tend to be gender neutral.
Back in the days of both Synthesizer V and Synthesizer V Studio, I found that layering voices always resulted in an aesthetically displeasing phasey sound. This would happen even after taking what I felt were reasonable precautionary measures.
However, my recent attempts at creating layered...
Yamaha funded Vocaloid research and also developed its editor. However, the Vocaloid engine itself was the work of Jordi Bonada at Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona. You can find his dissertation (in English) here...
They're all Windows only, but Variety of Sound has a bunch of free plugins:

Although I have to admit, I only use the NastyDLA mkIII plugin, and even then its interface is tough to read.
FeenstaubTC (not to be confused with FeenstaubTX) also...
In case anyone wants to test/improve my Pro-Q 4 preset, here it is:
It defaults to -12.0 dB, which is about as low as you would want to go for SVS1 voicebanks. (Well... -11.7 dB is probably closer to the limit that I could hear, but -12.0 dB is a nicer number.)
Maybe -9.0 dB or -6.0 dB should...
So, I had an epiphany.
It suddenly occurred to me that if I rendered Teto as two different files using the render "as extra files (isolated)" option, I might get better control over the unwanted engine noise. For those not familiar, the above option generates two files, one containing the...
I was wrong. There absolutely is "engine noise" in SVS2. It exists roughly between 5 kHz and 10 kHz, and manifests itself as a prickly metallic sound.
This can be isolated (and removed) using the spectral dynamics feature in Pro-Q 4, but doing so also affects "sh" and "ch" sounds.
Like most...
The more I use SVS1 and SVS2, the more I wonder if the "engine noise" is actually engine noise or something else. After all, unwanted artifacts vary noticeably from voice to voice. For example, I find Solaria* and Asterian cleaner than most, which are both produced by the same company, thereby...
