I held off making this thread as Dreamtonics has a tendency to drop big news around Christmas, but with the announcement of SynthV 2 I think we're safe. 2024 in many ways felt like a continuation of 2023: no major surprises now the precedent of cross-engine ports has been established, just more solid voicebanks and engine improvements. It's also been a quiet year for new engines, with no significant releases. At the end of 2024 I'm only left with one question: what was the deal with GEMVOX?!
For your entertainment, here's 2024's thread. Did you get anything right?
My 2025 predictions:
For your entertainment, here's 2024's thread. Did you get anything right?
- Maghni AI delayed, hello darkness my old friend
- A Vocaloid B-Studio voicebank jumps to V6
- Synthesizer V voicebank for...*throws dart*...Galaco!
- Crypton announce a new voicebank for literally anyone, on anything
- 'Synthesizer V can only do realistic voices' is put to bed at last by a kooky experimental voice
- New Korean vocal synth, but it's also on a brand-new Korean engine
- New English deep powerful alto SynthesizerV who can kick my ass with a good licence IT'S HER TIME
My 2025 predictions:
- SynthV 2 is briefly controversial on Twitter, but not for anything significant. The voices sound smoother now, and the horizontal scroll bars don't require military precision to find and click - neat!
- Voisona finally kills CeVIO IN COLD BLOOD ...or just takes up all the new releases. Most CeVIO AIs get ported, except for Kafu.
- Its shiny new iPad version also brings in a lot of young new English-speaking users.
- The first new Spanish-native vocal is announced by Eclipsed Sounds, they have a down-to-earth design inspired by the traditional dress of a country in South America.
- A few current/former employees of Maghni AI have a public scuffle, but its beta release shows great potential.
- Someone gets behind-the-scenes tea on GEMVOX. There's like a 50/50 chance it's fake, but fans run wild with it.
- Dreamtonics changes the design of their letter voicebanks to something that doesn't challenge the eyes. They even choose a font to stick to; a nice respectable sans serif.
