2025 Vocal Synth Predictions

The Lightning Strike
I held off making this thread as Dreamtonics has a tendency to drop big news around Christmas, but with the announcement of SynthV 2 I think we're safe. 2024 in many ways felt like a continuation of 2023: no major surprises now the precedent of cross-engine ports has been established, just more solid voicebanks and engine improvements. It's also been a quiet year for new engines, with no significant releases. At the end of 2024 I'm only left with one question: what was the deal with GEMVOX?!

For your entertainment, here's 2024's thread. Did you get anything right?

  • Maghni AI delayed, hello darkness my old friend
Might as well have called this a free space on my bingo sheet really, large tech projects and being delayed go together like peanut butter and jelly.
  • A Vocaloid B-Studio voicebank jumps to V6
Yup! Multiple times, in fact. With a sprinkling of new engine noise as a bonus! (Sorry V6, I know you're improving)
  • Synthesizer V voicebank for...*throws dart*...Galaco!
Not for Synthesizer V, but Galaco did make her triumphant return on Vocaloid6. And she's the lead singer of ZOLA now? Why not.
  • Crypton announce a new voicebank for literally anyone, on anything
Miku got two new voicebanks announced for NT 2 and V6! And I guess the other characters got the Superpack.
  • 'Synthesizer V can only do realistic voices' is put to bed at last by a kooky experimental voice
Not yet, and alas, it feels like a more distant dream than ever.
  • New Korean vocal synth, but it's also on a brand-new Korean engine
Uhh. I don't think this happened. Unless I missed something. But hey, at least SynthV is getting Korean (allegedly).
  • New English deep powerful alto SynthesizerV who can kick my ass with a good licence IT'S HER TIME
Correction: it's THEIR time. Even better, they're a beautiful contralto. Thank you NYL for answering my prayers.

My 2025 predictions:
  • SynthV 2 is briefly controversial on Twitter, but not for anything significant. The voices sound smoother now, and the horizontal scroll bars don't require military precision to find and click - neat!
  • Voisona finally kills CeVIO IN COLD BLOOD ...or just takes up all the new releases. Most CeVIO AIs get ported, except for Kafu.
  • Its shiny new iPad version also brings in a lot of young new English-speaking users.
  • The first new Spanish-native vocal is announced by Eclipsed Sounds, they have a down-to-earth design inspired by the traditional dress of a country in South America.
  • A few current/former employees of Maghni AI have a public scuffle, but its beta release shows great potential.
  • Someone gets behind-the-scenes tea on GEMVOX. There's like a 50/50 chance it's fake, but fans run wild with it.
  • Dreamtonics changes the design of their letter voicebanks to something that doesn't challenge the eyes. They even choose a font to stick to; a nice respectable sans serif.
Please share your own predictions below!

My (delulu) predictions:
1. Kafu will be released for SynthV2 or she and the rest of the musical isotopes will get a 2.0 update for Voisona
2. VY1V6, VY2V6, Cyber DivaV6 and Cyber SongmanV6 will be announced
3. Miku V6 will be released on her birthday to punish us all with the agony of waiting and NT2 will come at the end of 2025 to kick us while we're down
4. Gynoid will be magically resuscitated. I take Xin Hua, Hime and Mikoto on any engine as long as it's not ace
5. Luo Tianyi and co will finally get their free V6 update that Shanghai Henian promised to those who purchased their V5 version a long time ago
6. Ameya will show mercy and rename Synthesizer U into something better than a one-letter-away trademark infringement... UtauAI, Utau2, UtauNeo, etc.
7. Yamaha hates us and a big V6 engine, new features and voice update will be repacked as Vocaloid7 after seeing the SynthV2 announcement

I was two for three on last year's:
  • Crypton will release Miku for Vocaloid 6, either as a replacement for NT or as a parallel offering.
  • The upcoming "major update" for NT will either be a software update that will at least put its output closer to Vocaloid 4...or an announcement of discontinuation in favor of the former prediction.
  • Luka or the Kagamines will have a release, either for Vocaloid 6 or NT.
So, with that in mind, I predict:
  • Luka or the Kagamines will have a Vocaloid 6 announcement. In general, I predict Crypton will get serious about updating their other characters.
  • Miku V6's release date will be announced in the first quarter of the year. (They said by the end of 2024, which in Crypton Time means "by April," I guess.)
  • Miku V6 will be released by the summer, though probably earlier.
  • Audio to MIDI will be a feature, either as an update to Vocaloid 6 or as a headline feature teased for Vocaloid 7.
  • Some significant updates to Vocaloid 6's rendering, hopefully fixing some of the nondeterministic behavior. (Please, Gumi, tell me why "guns" sounds like "goonz" but "buns" sounds like "buhnz" when played, but correct when clicked? Why? They have the same V phoneme!)

2024 has been an interesting year with lots of news and announcements:kokone_lili:, and I expect 2025 to be similar to it, a continuation of the various works. In details, regarding Crypton:
- Miku NT ver.2 development is going well, the Early Access version has been a very good idea and it'll lead to good things (is very impressive already); :miku_ani_lili:
- as for the release date for Miku NT ver.2, Crypton is planning the first half of the year, so around spring time, but it's possible the release could be delayed a little bit (let's say around Miku birthday or autumn), it really depends on the development process;
- we also know that Miku V6 needs more development time from Yamaha's side, probably they waited for Vocaloid 6.5 update, and a good release time should be around february/march, by Miku's day I think; :miku_lili:
- Crypton staff gave hints about Rin, Len, Luka, Meiko and Kaito receiving NT2 and V6 updates. There are probably some works already behind the scenes, but especially for NT engine, they need to wait for Miku NT2 release to have a good starting point. I think they'll hold another talking session during Magical Mirai in Tokyo with some nice news and announcements :miku_lili::luka_lili::len_smile_lili::rin_smile_lIlI::kaito_smile_lili::meiko_lili:
- for all PiaPro characters NT2 updates, I think there will be another Early Access testing period (maybe for anybody having the PiaPro Super Pack) and iXima will take care of art box designs;
- In a few weeks there will be Project Sekai movie, and I know it will be soooo good<3

You actually did get this right! AINOW is a Korean TTS engine that was crowdfunded a bit ago, though I'm not sure if they'll survive. I made a bingo sheet!

Miss Retrocore, at your service!
So looking back on my
-The fourth member of the Starry Court is lIlI's dream contralto.
So we actually got a lot of powerful altos and deep feminine voices this year which was so awesome!
-The ES Spanish vocal releasing in 2024 is going to be male (the one vocal I plan to buy next year, unless I really don't like the voice that much)
+This vocal will provide the rolling 'r' data so all SynthVs will properly roll 'r's when he releases (except Anri1 lol)

Null, the Spanish vocal did not release this year.
-The new AO guy will, unfortunately for him, release at the same time as Frimomen, or at least get overshadowed by some big-deal release like Jun did.
+He'll get an official daki too, and so might Andi. But not Anri because AO is a husbando factory XD

So he actually released around the same time as Moca instead. Also he didn't get a daki but he's getting one but it doesn't count because it's not out yet. They did make an Andi daki however and an Anri daki.
-Gumi SynthV seems to be doing well so, Una SynthV
I was kinda joking with this prediction but, welp I predicted Una SynthV.
-The Maghni AI crowdfund is a success; but they have problems with shipping the physical crowdfunder rewards, and at launch, the program is a broken piece of shit.
I've seen patterns like this before, I predicted there would be problems, but it's better that they delayed the vocal synth engine and restructured things. Hopefully 2025 is a better year for them.
-I'm not even gonna bother making predictions about Rosa SynthV or Piapro NT again lol.
Putting this here because this aged hilariously.
-And for personal predictions, that hopefully 2024 is the year that I finish Deci Mal's English voicebank!
Still no, but the voicebank is 60% complete now.

Now for my predictions for 2025:
-French and Korean on SynthV are for SynthV 2.
-Vocaloid6 will add Korean cross-lingual around the same time.
-SynthV 2 sounding more realistic than SynthV will spark debate among AI fans (how realistic is too realistic?)
-Some AHS vocals will get SynthV 2 updates, such as Tsurumaki Maki.
-It will be the first SynthV engine without a new release for Eleanor Forte :(
-Maybe not 2025 but AO will make SynthV 2 updates for all their vocals, starting with Jun.
-We'll still get more old SynthV releases over the year, but the I think the last ones will be around early 2026. These probably include the ES Spanish vocal and the final AO characters.
-Quadimension will be able to sort out the problem with Chiyu AI and release her next. Then we get Shian or Muxin.
-Chorical will release another vocal for Voisona.
-Crypton announces a release date for Kagamine Rin and Len NT (I feel silly saying this, but they are doing NT 2 so I have hope again they'll release the others).
-Miku V6 will sound robotic and people will hate it (kids these days and dissing robotic vocals smh).
-Gemvox's next stop is CeVIO AI. No way they're getting on Vocaloid. (edit: I forgot Ace existed, I could see them getting on Ace however).

Personal predictions: Deci Mal's English voicebank will be completed next year, and so will her updated Japanese voicebank. Her Spanish voicebank will begin production in either late 2025 or early 2026 and be complete by the end of 2026.

Well it's that time of the year again!

I'm not gonna go over my joke predictions, understandably none of them happened
Somewhat grounded in reality:

- MEDIUM 5 finally gets a foreign distributor of some kind (C'mon Ddicky I know you can do it) (Nnnope! Oh well.)
- Some other Chinese company throws their hat in the vsynth ring and develop for SynthV (Didn’t happen. There were some rumors about possible Vsinger SV on twitter but nothing came of it)
- We get a few more V6 banks that aren't the first party silhouette people Yamaha announced (Did happen. Hello Hibiki Koto V6, Tsuina-chan V6, Vocalo no Ci-chan, Gekiyaku and Kazehiki-Christ there was a lot of them)
- We get the rest of the silhouette people (Sorta happened? Are there anymore of the initially announced ones that’s not out yet?)
- We get Chiyu AI SV (Nope, delayed)
- More unexpected SV ports for popular vocaloids (Did happen. Hi Otomachi Una SV)
- Singing voice for Miyamai Moca (Her vp is a skilled singer it would be a waste not to) (Did happen and thank god for that she’s great!)
- Bringing back the Asumi sisters SV from last years predictions. Frimomen SV will become an over night meme sensation. (No for the first one, Not quite for the second one but Frimomen did do better than I expected)

The "wishfull thinking with various degrees of possibility" zone:

- New Project Diva? Pls... *Puppy eyes* (Yeah no that def won’t happen lol)
- Rest of the MEDIUM 5 girls get AI versions (I heard some stuff about not all of the VP's being into the idea but they never cite sources plus maybe they might have changed their minds so like a girl can dream) (Kind off happened? Hi Haiyi AI)
- If Crypton is hell bent on continuing with NT I hope they fix it this year. Like not just minor fixes I hope any future NT update will blow our collective heads off with how incredible it is (Yes I am an NT hater no I am not sorry if you like it that's cool I have nothing against you but I just cannot bring myself to like it) (This sorta happen but tbh I am not impressed with the fixes but whatever I’m partially counting it anyway)
- Rosa SV will finally actually happen (Yep did happen)
- Final member of Eclipsed Sounds Starry Court will be a feminine alto vocal, most likely with a black hole theme and purple. Possibly goth. (I got this like 90 percent right. Dunno if NYL counts as goth, their theme is technically void and they are a contra alto but I was sorta correct?)
- AHS will finally bless us with official Asumi siblings MMD models (Please…) (Did happen)
- Kamitsubaki overcome whatever hurdle they have with Kafu SV and she releases (Oh past me, my sweet summer child...)
In total, I had a better track record at guessing things than I expected? I thought most of these end up being wrong

Now onto the new year I guess. I am not gonna categorize them this time, we are gonna be full delulu on main today:

- Either Kamitsubaki will just come out and confirm the voicebank canceled or by some Christmas miracle Kafu SV actually comes out
- SynthV -> SynthV 2 transition will most likely be similar to the R1 -> Studio transition which means unfortunately we might have to buy it separately, I can only hope they do an uppgrade discound for Studio Pro owners similar to the R1 to Studio situation (I don't like this prediction either but let's be realistic here)
- PASTEL and HALO will probably come out sometime between late January and early April, but def sometime the beginning of the year. They'll probably have some other famous musician commissioned for demos like with POPY and ROSE SV
- Related to the above, more Yumenokeshou characters in the future but they will probably be announced the end of the year if that happens. Also possible PASTEL/HALO Cevio port for their anniversary just for funsies
- Miku V6 might get hit with another delay and also I would not be surprised if it will just sound like NT in cursive, because they just decided that's the new trademark Miku sound much to my dismay
- Chiyu AI might get released this year, but I'm expecting it to be around the end of the year like with Haiyi
- You know what screw it, Luo Tianyi SynthV might as well happen. With all the SynthV transitions we've seen, would not surprise me
- Project Sekai Movie will probably do well financially, will get generally warm reception by fans but casual viewers and anime reviewers who aren't familiar with Proseka will probably give it middling to negative reviews because they won't understand what's going on without the four years worth game story context. The movie itself will also bullshit a way to preserve the status quo and the five main units remain unaware of the fact that the others have a SEKAI because they are probably saving that bombshell for the 5th anniversary if they ever go there
- Teto Voicepeak because AHS and Twindrill teased the idea few times
- Some really out of left field vsynth release for any engine
- Cowboy SynthV voiced by PM Seymour for realsies

I only made one prediction in 2024, which was this:
This year, my main prediction is Crypton throwing in the towel regarding NT (but not publicly admitting it) by announcing an AI version of Miku, on either V6 or SynthV. The fandom pressure for Miku AI has been rising throughout this year, and experimental attempts on YT haven't helped.
Well, turned out I was half-right - Miku V6 will be a thing, but Crypton are updating NT to version 2, intending to keep the two softwares as complimentary banks. I'm still not impressed with NT's quality though lol.

I'm still dreadful at predictions, but I'm gonna take some stabs at the dark regardless:
  • French and Korean support in SynthV will be locked behind SynthV 2, including a bonus language that hasn't been rumoured yet.
  • An annoucement will be made on Kafu SynthV - either she's been heavily reworked to sound more like her CeVIO and will finally be released, or it will be officially canned. A third option is a port to a less realistic synth, possibly V6.
  • Crypton will finally say something about NT and V6 updates for their other characters.
  • An unexpected, famous VP will be announced for a vocal synth, attracting controversy outside the fandom for being an AI bank.

Just thinking about it, I may add a prediction though barely possible... And what if one of the new VOXFactory could be either SeeU or a brand new voicebank for UTAU/DV Darling ?

Edit as of 26/01/2025 : And what about Vora and Khylin possibly coming back there ?
