How do you make a cover fit the range of the vocaloid you want to use?

I saw a few times of people mentioning in their description that they lowered the key of the instrumental and vsqx by like -2 to better fit the singer. I'm wondering exactly how do they do it?
There has been a few covers that I did or attempted to do but my vocaloids will struggle a bit on the range. Even one recently was Dramaturgy with Arsloid, but the vsqx was a different key from the instrumental. With some help, I picked the vsqx up by 1. :akasakiminato_lili:

I would like to learn so I can improve in the future. Also, I need to really get good at recognizing different keys clashing in covers. :ring_ani_lili:

Thanks for reading! :midorizakikasumi_lili:

Do you have a reference for the song you want to make a cover with? You might give us a link of the song so we have an idea. It's depend on the song too and what vocal synth do you use? Male or Female etc, any info is help.

You can move the key up or down in most DAWs! For example, in Reaper you right click the audio file and open a settings menu, where you can choose how much to transpose the audio by. Then you move the vocal melody midi by the same amount in your vocal synth.

Another simple method is to move the vocal melody up or down an octave (12 semitones). You don't need to change the key of the instrumental at all if you do this, because the key and notes stay the same (just i.e. C4 instead of C5). Using this method you can also choose to only transpose the notes that are out of range, rather than the whole song.

I use FL Studio as my main DAW. Thinking of one day trying out Cubase lite, but still with FL. :jun_lili:
Here is the Dramaturgy with Arsloid that I mentioned: The off key vocal cover progress
I couldn't figure out how to move the instrumental to try to match the vocals, so someone told me to move his vocals just one key up. :mikiv4_ani_lili: you can hear it here: I used the improved version here!

Also I was trying to find a cover that I thought was with Kaito and Len with the key change, but maybe it was a Miku and Rin cover....:marie_ork_lili: Fragile - Miku and Rin cover Earthy did a key change near the end of the cover. But I thought I remember reading in a description of a key change to better fit a male vocaloid's range and it was with Kaito and Len...Can't believe I misremembered that. :ring_ani_lili: Well I had once thought of one day visiting my Kaito and Miku cover of Fragile and see if I can improve it to fit Miku better. If I don't still, at least I want to know how to do it for any future covers. :sonika_ani_lili:
