@BlueJ I think it might be my mixing! I think i added too much reverb to MEIKO.I made a private version without any plugins. Tell me if it fixes the blurriness. If not it might be The voice bank like you said. It's weird because it sounded fine in the VOCALOID5 editor. Maybe if I just slap the the two together.

So right around here with the second chorus, I noticed that this one I could understand much much better
@BlueJ this is what it sounds like slapped together. Am I going in the right direction?
But on this one, I think it kinda sounds just a little jumbled, in my opinion I would go with the (No Plug - Ins) because I think it's easier to understand. Keep in mind that I'm not a Vocaloid Producer, this analysis is just based on me trying to understand the dictation.

This is exactly why i made this tread be as honest as you need to be. I don't take it personally at all. I really like your help:miku_ani_lili:

I think its Jumbled because both MIKU and MEIKO are in the same key. so they overlap with each-other. and since they have different pronunciations of words they'll get out of sync with each other  .

@Blue J I'm also trying to establish that you don't need to be a producer to know what sounds good. Music is made to be heard. I wouldn't make much progress if i stayed in my bubble and rely on my own opinions. Besides, you've made some really good points. And I've learned I can't trust 3AM brain :kaito_move:

I can barely trust my brain no matter what time it is

Well if you ever need some help, I would be happy to oblige. Side Note: You @ed a guy named Blue... when you @ me make sure its @BlueJ... just saying lmao

hi dont mind me popping in, just want to clarify your wording, when you say "no plugins" on that one version, are your speaking of plugins/effects done *in* vocaloid 5? or the effects you are doing while mixing separately (i assume, in an outside program)?

there's definitely something your mixing that i think causes more of that 'fuzziness' as well but i'd suspect it lack of equalizer/equalizer being done wrong. the version without plug-ins still needs 'something' imo, and that would be equalizer. correct me if im wrong on any of those assumptions about your mixing though! (edit: will add i havent mixed with meiko much and sometimes it can be the limits of the voice imo but still wanna throw somethings out there)

your slapped together one doesnt sound that bad by any means, but i get whats being said. i feel like the vocal (mostly in the verse) that comes up behind the main vocal is a bit too... 'on top' of the main, in both versions and some sharper equalizing could help the main voice, along with possibly some kinda chorus flanger effect and maybe even a stronger reverb in some spots for the backing voice- its not bad to keep the voice higher in volume to be heard but those effects can 'distance' it from the voice it is singing behind a bit more.

uhh its hard for me to write this as i work very hands on lol, so apologies if thats a bit nonsese. im unaware what you use to mix too, which may help give me an idea of some limitations/possibilities...

Yeah, the slapped together one doesn't sound bad at all, and sounds great, it was just the no plugins one sounded better IMO

@BlueJ I think this is better. I think it's in the right key this time. I decided to make it a duet with MEIKO because I wasn't satisfied with how it sounded with MIKU alone. This is the first time I mix with 2 different voices so its possible that some parts are not at the same volumes or the mixing is just off. ya'll can point it out if you notice something.
If I may be honest, I think the overlay sounds a bit odd... like, they never quite merge and meld into a solid, cohesive voice. Though honestly, I think this could sound amazing with just Meiko! Your tuning is spectacular, and her voice might have more of that texture Miku is missing.

(Note: Although I'm quoting peaches2217, this message is directed at Ronny777...)

I think this is a valid observation, but there might be a fix. Try pushing the high-pass filter up relatively high on Miku (at least an octave higher than Meiko), thereby reducing and/or eliminating her lower frequencies. By doing this you can complement Meiko with just the upper frequencies, which can make the layering effect more transparent. This works because the lower frequencies of a complex tone generally have more power than the upper frequencies. (If it does work. Every voice and every song is different...)

Ok! i'm going to work on that with everything everyone said. I'll get back with what ever what i come up with!

When I say no plugins I mean outside vocaloid5.By the way for more info if it helps. I'm on MAC. I use GarageBand to do the mixing and the instrumentals to my covers. I use Vocaloid5 exclusively when i work on the vocals. I own Cubase and vocaloid4 but i stopped using because it wouldn't let me control the time? when I was in Vocaloid5 so i would have to click out.

Yeah, the slapped together one doesn't sound bad at all, and sounds great, it was just the no plugins one sounded better IMO
ya, I just made that version in case it would work since i had both versions. I was hoping for a miracle.

I will do my absolute best to try and do what you suggested.

OK. I think I got something that sounds cleaner and clearer. I lowered the ambiance and reverb so that the voices sound less floaty. Honestly, I sounds much better to me but if its still off I think I should practice more and revisit it in a few months after I learn how to mix better. I think this is the limit to what I can do right now:unsure:. I want to do the song justice and I'm also not 100% satisfied with Miku and Meikos pronunciations. I might have gone a little to far with the voice cracks with MEIKO. All in all this isn't too bad for a suggested song that I'd never really heard before.... or maybe it is I don't know:LOL:

it does sound good!! mixing will only take practice, best to not over-focus on this one cover cuz im sure you will only figure out more the more you attempt more covers!

sadly i have no expirience with the mac related stuff you mention using either since i use windows lol, so i would be no good at even attempting what you've done if i was to have garageband lol. good job!

Careful headphone users! It might be a little on the loud side. I'm trying out a new tuning/mixing technique where I try to add dimension to MIKU's voice. I'd like to know what you guys think. It's not exactly perfect on the pronunciation right now but i feel Like she sounds more alive than I've ever been able to make her before. I'm mostly wondering if anything sounds off that I'm not noticing yet.

Woah Miku's English sounds really good here!! I could understand everything she was singing easily so I don't think pronunciation is a problem. Really the only thing that stood out to me was that some of her vowels, mainly just the end "o" sound in tomorrow, sounded a little weird (kind of like she had stuffed marshmallows in her cheeks lol) and I know I've had the same issue with Luka lots of times when I'd stretch out vowels. I'm still very new to V5 but one thing that sometimes fixed this was splitting the long vowel into two, and then instead of having the phonemes [o] and [-], I just did [o] [o]. There might be a better trick to fix this that I'm not aware of since again I'm still a V5 noob so feel free to correct me anyone ;;

Ya, thats one of the main problems I tend to have to work through with MIKU. I can't really split the vowels with MIKU English the way you described because it makes a slight chop sound. The phonemes there is [@U] and compound phonemes like that ( [aI] [eI] [Q@] [O@] [aU] ) don't blend and instead force the program to repeat the sound ( if [@U] [@U]) or and end it abruptly ([V] [@U] or [@U] ). If that makes any sense. Your technique works with Japanese and Spanish voice banks though, because they don't have those types of phonemes.
