*Reference: we watched a video of a guy getting pissed off at people "exoticizing" American food and trying to liken it to cultural appropriation. Yes, it was just as mind-numbingly dumb as it sounds.

As best I understand, cultural appropriation is inappropriately borrowing a cultural practice from another culture. So, I guess it might be like if the top-knots of Japanese samurai became an "in" hairstyle somewhere else, and started getting worn by people who didn't understand/appreciate their meaning? (Though I can't claim to understand their exact significance myself, my impression (from The Last Samurai, at least...which obviously isn't the absolute best cultural info source, orz) is that they had a particular meaning/were important to those who wore them.)

In contrast, I can't imagine any American seriously giving a good damn who eats Pop-Tarts. I would've thought Kellogg's marketed/sold those to anyone in the world who wanted them.

No, I know, I know! I provided the explanation a few responses up. A YouTuber got pissed off at people "appropriating" and "exoticizing" American foods and culture and we're poking fun at him is all. I'm American myself and spent the whole video just groaning in embarrassment.

I guess we should consider the possibility that the guy is a member of some religion or something where Pop-Tarts are sacred food....

i remember reading about something similar one time, tho not in the way of someone ever saying its appropriation. its very true that other countries have their own interpretation of american foods, and often make some strange things off assumption of what is american. its funny and kinda interesting tbh how things can get passed around lol. but hell if ive ever seen someone say its appropriation....god
