Reading this made me laugh (not sure if it was the intended reaction, though). I showed someone a song I was working on a couple of days ago to try to get into a collab project and the way they insulted it really hurt my feelings. I kept wondering why it mattered what level the participants were if it was supposed to be a free album/celebratory. Like "You can only share your music if I like it" kinda vibes...

Wow, didn't know that was a thing, course I'm not exactly "in the know". I'm surprised stuff like that goes on, but I guess I shouldn't be. That's sad, because I thought vocaloid was mostly about having fun (for most people). "Big fish in a little pond" comes to mind as perhaps an apt phrase for the types of people who would do those types of things

I never knew the community was known for making annoying music. I always found it unique instead. Maybe my taste is different though.

Well, let me tell you one thing......hmm............not sure if I should say this. Oh well, here goes. Spending 4 years in a university studying and being exposed to 20th century western art music has prepared my ears for anything. Most of the vocaloid music I've heard is like angels singing in the heavens compared to some of that. They would receive standing ovations in the halls of academic circles....I might come back and delete this. It was funny to me when I typed it, though. I don't know.

i know what you're talking about and i hate it as well. but the fact that there are Vocaloid music snobs means that there are people who want more variety and effort in the music. which is kinda good in a way, cause that means there are people who care about the improvement process of the producers. part of the fun of making music is getting better at it, and i feel like too many hobbyist producers (and, likewise, a lot of Vocaloid producers) have a very stagnant style of songwriting because its their comfort zone and they don't want to budge. sometimes their stylized approach ends up hurting the overall product, with something like bad mixing, lyrics are too wordy, etc. its almost equitable to artists who have really bad anatomy skills and use the excuse, "its just my style". so i don't mind the fact that vocaloid music snobs exist, because they give the community a reason to grow. but yeah, i wish they could learn to give constructive criticism instead of dismissing everything they hear rudely... in the end its just about etiquette, really.

That's a really interesting point! Don't really have much to add. When I complain about vocaloid elitists it's usually about the people who have producers they hate live in their heads rent free when they could just. Not interact with their content
