At least on Reddit, it did. I haven't interacted with the fandom elsewhere, but what i can tell you is that after mid-2024 is when the reddit side of fanbase entered a nosedive.
r/azumangaposting is especially bad. You cannot go 10 mins without seeing humor that was straight out of Instagram Reels ("aryan" edits, nazi/racist jokes...)
Also, I found a reddit post where someone posted a 4chan screenshot claiming "Zoomers ruined Azumanga" and the evidence within that 4chan post was a clearly faked Wikipedia screenshot claiming that Kimura was a controversial character in the most AI-genned way possible. When I brought up the faked wikipedia article (lack of links, edit history), all OP said was "This isn’t even Wikipedia dude this is 4chan and it isn’t fake this is a real blogger, I don’t use ai"
