im curious what flaws people think they have? ive at least used solaria most and i cant say i have any issues with her tbh. sv2 has a few minor issues outside of specific voices of course. ive at least found the quality improvements that already exist to have been worth the upgrades regardless tbh

The main complaints I've seen are that Solaria and Saros have less impactful belting, with Saros exhibiting more engine noise and vocal modes that behave strangely. Asterian has received the fewest complaints, whereas reviews for Nyl 2 are the most scathing, with the general consensus being that their performance has significantly worsened across the board. One issue SynthV 2 seems to have is less controlled performances, chaotic pitch behaviour and aggressive shifts in the singer's power (this also comes up a lot with Moca 2).

Going off the SynthV wiki's solfeges, you can hear NYL's issues most obviously in their 'Emphatic' sample. It's extremely unstable on their 2 version (compare to version 1). There is, however, a lovely human quality to some of their other samples that I prefer to NYL 1, so I think the voicebank does have a lot of potential if its more extreme behaviours are reined in.

nyl II currently has a lot of issues with engine noise and random artifacting in the vocals, an issue which i think has arisen simply due to the nature of how these new voices work - the same thing causing these issues is the same thing that, imo, allows the other vocals to have more of a human-like depth to them ironically. like you said too lili, some of those things that make them sound unnatural do also wrap back round to feeling natural, which is why i imagine it's an issue in the first place, and one that hasn't immediately been fixed (though knowing ES, i'm sure there'll be a solution)
it does make them a lot harder to use in my opinion, but the extensive nature of SV2's parameters also means that there's a lot that the user can manually do to work around - nay, even make soundgooodable (sorry) - these things, which i always believe is in the true spirit of vsynth

funnily enough, i've heard the opposite about solaria that her range and expression has done nothing but improve, but absolutely nyl and saros have suffered a bit of a hit in the switch-over - ironic that asterian is the most stable given how 'experimental' a low-octave ai vocalist technically is LOL.

(sorry if this is worded like crap btw. despite doing literature and linguistics this year at uni, i think my writing skills have really really deteriorated omg)

It's very useful to hear your experience having used them hands-on! I wasn't able to distinguish the extra engine noise in the mixed clips I've heard; so that's good to be aware of. There's a lot of amazing nuance in SV2's output, which is partly why I'm so keen for the more problematic areas to be refined. I want to see everyone reach their potential.

The more I use SVS1 and SVS2, the more I wonder if the "engine noise" is actually engine noise or something else. After all, unwanted artifacts vary noticeably from voice to voice. For example, I find Solaria* and Asterian cleaner than most, which are both produced by the same company, thereby leading me to presume that "engine noise" is more a reflection of the quality of the source recording than anything else. After all, garbage in, garbage out.

I would imagine to get the best quality voicebank one would need to use a microphone with the flattest frequency response that technology allows, thereby avoiding unwanted emphasis of certain sound/pitch combinations; the cleanest preamp that technology allows, ensuring no unwanted saturation/distortion is imprinted on the voicebank; and the use of an anechoic chamber during recording to prevent unwanted reverberations polluting the data. (Unfortunately, such rooms are rare, and probably expensive to rent.)

To further elaborate on the last point, slightly before Dreamtonics released SVS1 they shared a photo of a vocal booth that they had built in their offices. The thing is, I swear I could hear that vocal booth in the released Saki voicebank, and I'm certain someone else here on this very forum has mentioned the same thing. So the recording environment, at the very least, does matter.

*Solaria (SVS1) has/had an issue with plosives, which is definitely a recording issue, possibly due to questionable mic positioning.

i wouldn't be surprised at all if recording setting/quality is effecting it more than "engine noise" in SV2 specifically-- im unsure if its ever been established that ES has their own studio they bring their VPs to, or if its simply the VP's own environment...? Solaria being their very first, i dont doubt their quality recording from then to Asterian varied quite a bit either from the setting or just learning better methods. but if they dont have their own established space, Nyl's quality despite being made much later could've (partially, as theres other issues not related to sound quality) due to that.

i can agree Nyl definitely has the most problems... I feel Asterian sounds quite good and has some improvements in areas, and tbh I feel a number of masculine voices have improved in SV2 anyways. which is great, i had many problems w lower ranges with some of them

New Jun demo!
i will admit fully i did not like the last demo at all, but that was more due to the song. i just do not think it sounded good. this one however, flows much better to me. i like Jun a little more here, as i really did not like his style of enunciation in SV1... its still kinda there tho. we'll have to see what the SV2 upgrade cost is before i even considering upgrading (unless they already mentioned a good discount for prev owners?)

i think you can only get to the page thru the upgrade button on the dreamtonics "my products" list but the upgrade is $20 USD! i went ahead and grabbed it a while ago for completion's sake but i'm crossing my fingers that he doesn't scoop his notes quite so much in SV2 😬

How much do all of the letter vocals cost? (including Ling Wan who is currently not in the Dreamtonics store and not including upgrades, I want to know specifically for this version)

You can find an upgrade price table in the first post of this thread! This is taken from Dreamtonics' blog. If you're asking about the total base price, that would need some calculating.
