Teto's future?

I'm just asking for people's opinions on a "what if" situation.

I think we all know that Teto will probably never get a vocaloid voicebank, especially after they once tested out what she'd sound like in Vocaloid for fun and was said to have lost her unique tone ( judge for yourself ):

But now that Crypton is developing a voice synth of their own that focuses on capturing uniqueness of the voice and seeing how the future of UTAU is questionable and how Crypton and TWINDRILL are on good terms, do you see Teto becoming avalibe for the new Piapro Studio as a possibility?

Or do you see her becoming a deepvocal as more realistic situation? Do you think people would be angry that they would have to pay for her after so many years being avalibe for free? Would you be willing to pay for her piapro studio VB?

The biggest issue I see with this is that she wouldn't be profitable enough because people would redistribute her UTAU voicebank, there are vocaloids that were once utaus but none of them were as big and so widely owned as Teto.

What do you guys think?

I think Teto will be staying on UTAU honestly. I think it’d be cool for her to get a voicebank with Crypton’s stuff, but Crypton is likely trying to go for a sound that will keep the uniqueness of their Vocaloids, so the engine will be close to Vocaloid if not the same, so it’d be hard to get Teto’s voice right. I also think it’d be hard to sell her when nearly everyone who uses or has used UTAU has at least one Teto VB downloaded, especially if they got into UTAU earlier on.

I think it's unlikely that Teto will get a VB outside of UTAU, especially if it's Vocaloid or Piapro Studio. I can only think of one UTAU vocal+character, Yamine Renri, ever reaching a newer platform, and that was for Synthesizer V, which can be used to some extent without paying. Plus, Teto has a sound very characteristic of UTAU, and tampering with that wouldn't be a popular change. I certainly don't like that demo of Teto in Vocaloid. It doesn't even sound like Teto to me. Yamine Renri could get away with having a new version for Synth V by having a relatively realistic voice in the first place.

I wouldn't be willing to buy a Vocaloid or Piapro Studio version of Teto. I like Teto, but she isn't a good fit for the kind of music I make. If it were a vocal that suits my music better, like Hakaine Maiko or Hibiki Shinji, I wouldn't mind having to pay, since I hate UTAU's UI and inability to run inside my DAW, and any improvement to the recording/engine quality would be a welcome change.

With UTAU increasingly showing its age, I hope more UTAU vocals migrate to newer platforms, whether it's like Yamine Renri with the character intact, or Namida and Kenji Baionoto turning into Dex and Daina with only the same voice providers. I suppose I can also hope for the UTAU community getting fed up with the current program and making an improved fork of it to fix that UI and let it run inside of DAWs. If that happened I might just stick to UTAU and scoff at paid versions of my precious vocals. I'm not saying it will actually happen, though. No no no, I find that incredibly unlikely.

Oh UTAU, entertaining and saddening me at the same time.

I agree that she's unlikely to get piapro studio voicebank even though it's a fun thought.

I was just wondering what people's potential reaction to such thing happening might be! Thank you for your input!

But I personally think she might become deepvocal ( since deepvocal sounds similar to utau ) once UTAU becomes completely obsolete and unsupported by windows. We still do have several years left so as long as twindrill will stay interested in Teto I can see that happening.

OMG! Thank you for linking to where Crypton had used her vb! I'd been looking all over for that! Crypton really was right that she lost her unique tone in Vocaloid; she doesn't seem to have her strong accent that's especially present in her "o" vowels. She doesn't sound like herself anymore, and almost sounds like a slightly deeper Miku a bit like a softer, more mature Mayu without Mayu's slight nasal tone. Huh. I guess Vocaloid's engine really changes the voice samples a lot!

Also, you ask a very interesting question! I doubt Twindrill would move her to Crypton's new engine. I read somewhere (but I don't remember where or where they got this information, so take this with a grain of salt) that Crypton had previously expressed interest in making her a Vocaloid, but Twindrill turned it down, stating that they didn't want Teto to only be for paying audiences.

(Also, about UTAU, earlier this year Ameya, UTAU's developer, had tweeted about a potential update. But I don't think there's been anymore information on that since.)

Its doubtful, but given her appearance in Miku symphony, they might release her as a "free" voice to promote the new engine or make a private version for events.

(Also, after investigating the video, it appears as though they used part of Miku's voicebank to make that sample)

No problem! I was meaning to make the link more accesible, having it only scattered around twitter isn't ideal ahaha. And yes! I personally like the way she sounds in Vocaloid but it isn't Teto. And for the longest time I also wondered to what extent Vocaloid affects the voice samples.

Yea I can imagine Twindrill doing that! Not only because they want Teto to be more accesible to other people but also because her being for free and being "fake diva" is kind of her gimmick!

( I heard about it but sadly it wouldn't change the fact that utau is coded in out-dated coding language. The best thing for utau would be if Ameya changed the license to open source so people could edit it's code and possibly convert it into more modern coding language )

Honestly yea, if Teto were to ever get a piapro studio VB it would be only a private one used in events.

Also that makes sense, Vocaloids use different reclists so they had to frankenstein Teto's VB with vocaloid's to make her "complete".

I could see them running the samples through Utau to get her to sound like teto
I also considered this, and I think it could actually work. I'm currently making an UTAU VB using text-to-speech samples from eSpeak, and it works surprisingly well. It certainly captures the characteristics of the samples you use, but it of course has at least slightly lower quality than using raw samples.

What I mean by that is if you, say, make an UTAU VB using samples of Teto singing, it should work just fine, but if you use that output as a new input, and go through the process again any number of times, the result would become increasingly distorted and noisy. It could still sound like Teto, though.

The only problem I see with this is that there might be some quality issues with the samples similarly as Overcast Immortal mentioned.

It was really interesting to hear her in the VOCALOID engine. You could still identify the voice as hers, but it was missing a lot of her most prominent features. I love her UTAU vb but I also really liked her voice in VOCALOID.
I can't see Teto ever moving out of UTAU, but because her voice is so unique and iconic it is fun to hear how she sounds in other engines.

That was the first time I've ever heard Teto in another engine, and yeah... in Vocaloid, what makes Teto's VB distinguishable a la Miku is completely gone. She sounds more like a Teto Soft VB or something rather than the usual Teto.

I'm going to agree with everyone else and say that Teto is unlikely to move away from UTAU unless it becomes completely obselete and unsupported by future Windows OSs.

Hmm, that's a future I had never even thought about. When is the last time UTAU has even been updated?

The last stable release was all the way back in 2013 apparently, but the creator was mulling the possibility of a fresh update. Haven't seen any more news on that front though.
