Hello! Keeping up with vocal synth news has always been difficult, but in recent years, it's become even harder due to Vocaloid development not being as active and everything becoming decentralized. I know we have news threads on here, but not everyone follows them and I like sharing compiled resources. Feel free to submit revisions since I know I got some of the dates wrong, and share it with other people online! I might add more links/images to this later.
2020 was a very active year for the vocal synth community, so here's a calendar of the major releases. Dates are listed in American order (month/day/year).
Neutrino - Released 2/22/2020. Had a part in starting the AI voicebank trend. Not capable of tuning, just spits out an audio file after being fed notes and lyrics.
Synthesizer V Studio - Released 6/30/2020. Synthesizer V Studio is a new version of the Synth V editor with more functions added. There is a free and paid version of the editor. AHS announced their collaboration with Dreamtonics and brought their characters over to the engine this year. Quadimension/Beijing Photek has also been active on Synth V, releasing two new characters. Synthesizer V Studio added AI functionality this month.
AISingers - Released in February 2020. A Chinese AI based synthesizer. It's open to hiring vocalists. Some of these characters were on other Chinese voice synthesizers originally.
X Studio - Singer(X Studio · 歌手) - An AI based synth created by Microsoft. It's currently in beta and is also open to hiring new vocalists. Their official website is very out of date as of this post. It used to be called StudioVoiCE. I'm not sure how these characters names are supposed to look in pinyin (English letters), so these are my best guesses.
Piapro Studio New Type - Released on 11/27/2020, Prototype was released on 6/4/2020. Miku fans probably don't need much of an introduction to this one. New Type has been worked on for years, and released last month to mixed reviews. Miku NT was released along with the engine. There have been a few patches to the software over its existence. Crypton Future Media is using the "release it early, fix it later" model.
Alter/Ego - While an inactive software, Voxwave released Leora in 2020 as the last voice for the program.
Future Releases
This is obviously a very tentative list. I definitely missed some things and not all of these projects have release dates yet. With that being said, I'm really excited for most of these. I'm especially pumped for Synth V Maki-Voiceroids are getting a lot of attention it seems. Synthesizer V is definitely in its boom era right now.

- This is an spiritual successor to AITalk, a software which Voiceroid, GumiTalk, UnaTalk, and GynoidTalk were based on. The Voiceroids Akane/Aoi Kotonoha and Iori Yuzuru will get singing and talking banks for A.I.VOICE.
- A collaboration between Misbah Studios and Vocatone which is in its very early stages. Two singers were announced for it on 12/25/2020, Aurum and Audine.
