First of all, who is Hatsune Miku?
Hatsune Miku is a singing voice synthesis software (also known as virtual singer software) that allows you to input lyrics and melodies to create a singing voice. It was first released on August 31, 2007, as VOCALOID2 Hatsune Miku, powered by the VOCALOID engine, a singing voice synthesis technology developed by Yamaha Corporation. As a result of numerous posts online of music created with the software, a chain of creations including illustrations, songs, and dances spread, becoming a cultural phenomenon driven by user-generated content. Now, beyond the framework of software, Hatsune Miku is widely recognized as a virtual singer, and her activities have expanded to include merchandise sales and concert performances both in Japan and overseas.

The new VOCALOID version of Hatsune Miku is multilingual!
Of course, while her activities as a virtual singer have increased, she has also evolved as software, and currently there are two versions of Hatsune Miku: one that uses the VOCALOID engine (hereafter referred to as the VOCALOID version) and one that uses an engine independently developed by Crypton (hereafter referred to as the NT version). Most recently, in March 2025, the latest version of the NT version, Hatsune Miku NT (Ver. 2), was officially released.

Hatsune Miku V6, whose teaser page has just been released, is the latest VOCALOID version of Hatsune Miku and will include voice libraries in Japanese, English, and Chinese*. VOCALOID6 is equipped with the new VOCALOID:AI function, which uses AI technology to synthesize more natural singing voices, enabling fluent singing that blends Japanese, English, and Chinese. Please keep an eye on future developments as Hatsune Miku continues to evolve as software.
*Chinese is expected to be supported via a free update after the official release of "Hatsune Miku V6."

If you want to be the first to know about the singing voice synthesis software products planned and developed by Crypton, please follow the official account of SONICWIRE, a download store for digital creators.

Good evening. I'm Koizumi from the SONICWIRE Music Business Team, where I'm in charge of planning, developing, manufacturing, and directing the sales of virtual singer products, together with producer Wat .

The title pretty much says it all, but today we released the teaser page for " Hatsune Miku V6 " and a lyric video demonstrating her singing voice.

We plan to steadily update this teaser page until the product release next year. The singing demo is "Prism (Hatsune Miku V6 Ver.) / Roji," a song that won the top prize at last year's music contest, " Sonicon ." We have been adjusting the product name for some time, but have finally settled on "Hatsune Miku Vocaloid 6".

Comment from Producer Sasaki (wat)
In order to harmonize Hatsune Miku's distinctive voice with the VOCALOID6 engine, which is designed to simulate "live human singing," we had to go through a lot of trial and error together with Yamaha, and we apologize for the length of time it took. We plan to continue fine-tuning the texture of the voice and the way consonants are produced as we approach release. We are also making good progress with the English singing, so we hope you will continue to support us.

The silhouette is an image shot, and the illustrator's visual will be announced at a later date.
Hatsune Miku V6 is scheduled for release in the first half of 2026. An Early Access version will be made available to existing users in December 2025.

Huh! Not what I expecting, but it sounds pretty good! It sounds like Miku, which is a relief. It's a little fuzzy near the beginning, but other than that it sounds pretty good! I wonder what English and Chinese will sound like compared to V3 and V4 English and V4 Chinese? Will English be more accented and darker, like V3, or will it be less accented and lighter, like V4? I feel like English will be closer to V4, because V3's accent was STRONG.

During the talking session at Magical Mirai 2025 in Tokyo, Crypton and Yamaha confirmed that Miku Vocaloid 6 is based both on V3 and V4X voicebanks, so I think is possible there will be some different voices to choose from, for example for English there might be a Dark (based on V3) and Light (based on V4X?) :miku_lili:
It's also so nice that the Chinese voicebank will be available as a free update. I'm really looking forward to November 9th event, very curious about how Piapro Studio and Vocaloid Editor will work in Vocaloid 6 :mell_lili: :kanatomell_lili:

I remember they said that "Miku V6 is based on V3 and V4X voicebanks, aiming to the cuteness of V2", and probably Vocaloid 6 engine might work better with V3 and V4 voicebanks (especially for the support of English and Chinese). Also, Miku V2 is still sold at retail by Crypton and used by many producers, so is good to give different choices:mell_lili: :kanatomell_lili:

Already, I'm happy with how Miku V6 sounds - it's basically Miku's default VB on an AI engine, which is what most of us wanted. (I'm also glad it doesn't sound like NT lol).

I could hear some fuzziness in the demo, but I think that's just V6's engine noise. I wasn't expecting SynthV's quality at all, nor did I want Crypton to try and make Miku V6 compete with Teto SynthV. (Some people in the YT comments were starting fights over Miku and Teto's comparable quality, and I was just sitting there thinking... 😑)

a very concat-flavored voicebank on an AI engine is very cool, and v6 has never been about sounding exactly human-level, but my worry is that if they don't really do enough with the v6 engine's features then it'll kind of just be like a concat voicebanks with the *downsides* of being on v6/being AI (i'm thinking, what if she struggles with range more than her concat counterparts?) - then at that point i'd have to ask why they wouldn't just make another v4 voicebank or something.
given how miku is known for her appends, this would be a very fun moment to introduce voice color/vocal mode options in v6, which would absolutely get me interested more in this vb.

also... "We have been adjusting the product name for some time, but have finally settled on "Hatsune Miku Vocaloid 6"." guys that's some incredible work, insane.

The subtle implication is that it doesn't have "AI" in the branding, like they were initially seeming to be thinking of, like how the V6 version of Gumi is officially called "AI Megpoid." Seems like a good move.

I feel like, with the time V6 has been out, that they would make it use V6's features in some unique way. But I dunno, I don't usually use V6, and I only have V6 lite.

The fuzzy engine noise confuses my brain, because I still heavily associate it with older versions of CeVIO. When I hear this demo it sounds like what I would have imagined Miku on CeVIO circa 2015~ to have sounded like, funnily enough. I'm interested to see her full artwork, I hope the silhouette is actually it because it suggests a new artstyle - although it would be surprising if they went for a side-profile as her main illustration.
