to give my opinion, its definitely the worst with him imo. it doesnt sound too bad to me with some others like feng yi or yi xi (but you can tell it changed). i think yuma's tone and quality is really good, i love it actually. but the accent is very much not good for his english.

i plan to send a feedback email about this and i highly suggest you do too-- if dreamtonics wants to keep appealing to the english industry, and we find it important that their faithfulness to the voice doesnt actual ruin the cross language, its worth pointing it out. id love to see something in the middle enough that the AI isnt taking away their key features sure, but not to where they just cant be understood easily. (i think us with the ear for these voices probably understand them even better than the casual listener without realizing either)
Yeah, I'm definitely letting them know because this is quite disappointing considering all I use is JP banks.
Here's their customer service form "for feedback and usage questions."

I just submitted my feedback.

It’d be cool if they could add a slider that let you have more or less of an accent with XLS. It seems some people like the accents while others don’t. (Haven’t tried out synth v 2 yet myself, but I’m not fond of really strong accents overall. Though some can be nice, it just depends on the voice.)

i can also report this morning that NYL's upgrade has downloaded!

i do trust we will hear some adjustments to the way english cross language sounds because theyve made so many adjustments to it through past version... I am glad they had been willing to make those updates, as many programs dont ever improve technology so actively. heres to hoping we will see positive changes if they see the feedback coming in consistently.

i'm shocked the eng xlang for native japanese voices is so bad right now
especially given that the v2 native english voices have way better japanese than the v1 versions (well, at least felicia and kevin do)

im pretty sure i recall Dreamtonics stating in a video about this change, it was intentional. i dont know if it was their 1 hour showcase or a shorter one but im like 99% sure they did say this would be a thing. though they of course didnt say it was "worse". they seemed to intend for it to make the japanese more true to their data. which intentions, i like. results, not as much. but even in their demos i recall it being pretty obvious already that the accent would be strong and there were already comments about it

it's such a shame, cos i know it's something a lot of people were looking for - and like i said, it's very hit or miss and still hit a very good in-between on some vocals - but it's just not totally there yet... maybe the best use for a jp vocal's english being if a jp song has little pieces of english through it.
otherwise, i'm wondering if this might make vocals that have extra language data sound better (has anyone demoed saros or sheena as of late?), and i'm especially curious if anri's 'sumire' vocal mode will also be better given that vocal modes have stronger affects on pronunciation now.

sorry to double post, but is Moca only available as an upgrade by May? at least from the google translate, it seemed to say you could only buy her upgrade for SV2 at a certain date, which said May. If I can get it now, can someone send a link?

Am I mismunderstanding something, or do the expression controls just not work with SV1 banks at all?

I really like how my SV1 stuff sounds in SV2 but I can't manipulate the pitch through any means but directly drawing, not even vibrato. I understand the feature is meant for the SV2 banks, but where else am I supposed to do *anything* with an SV one bank?

I'm so excited to use Gumi now that her vocal modes are much more noticeable, but I admittedly struggle to do vibrato by hand

They said it will have "limited effectiveness" but I'm not sure what that was supposed to mean. I'm not at my computer right now but are you saying there's no vibrato envelope parameter?

Are you sure they didn't mean that only her SV2 version will be available after May?

I've noticed that when using SVS1 voicebanks, you need to adjust the vibrato (middle) point a few times before any updates occur. And wait. You must wait. A lot of waiting.

Perhaps related, it seems to me that when using SVS1 voicebanks in SVS2, the entire track must be re-rendered before any changes can be played back. This is a regression from SVS1 where only changed notes and their immediate surrounding are updated.

In contrast, SVS2 voicebanks seem to behave correctly/efficiently. But I haven't spent as much time with any new voicebanks, so don't quote me on that.

It's there but just doesn't seem to do anything.

However...

It's very possible I'm just not waiting long enough. The waiting in general with the application drives me nuts, so I get pretty impatient.

Yes, they are expected to have a limited amount of impact on the generation, but not much.

The expression pad in particular will not do much to SV1 vocals because they do not have the "guts" to interact with this feature. See this page in the manual which has a table detailing the SV2 feature support for version 1. 01 Guide: Upgrade to Version 2 | Synthesizer V Studio User Manual . Same as in that press release but centralized source.

"Limited" means that the old databases do respond to the features by technicality, but they will not reflect the extent/intended audibility of these features because they do not really support the technology.

For me, this means that SV2 is not a replacement for SV1 vocals, and SV1 is still the primary/native environment for SV1 vocals. For example, I would not start an SV1 vocal project in SV2 because you cannot set their modulation via the expression pad to a "flat" setting for the purposes of overriding the AI modulations. This works great for SV2 vocals, but doesn't really for SV1 vocals because they don't have the configuration to support the expression pad.

Vibrato though I wasn't having trouble with. Out of curiosity, which SV1 vocal were you testing on?

Bit of a shame that SV2 keeps SV1 permanently in the loop for those that want to use an SV1-exclusive product, and isn't fully cross-compatible with the featureset. At the same time, that would mean upkeeping two separate "branches" of the product within one software suite, which sounds like a nightmare. Hopefully, most of the iconic SV1 voices get an SV2 upgrade, and we can take advantage of the new features with all of those old voices.

I've now noticed that the closer I get to the end of a song, the more responsive SVS2 becomes to changes made when using SVS1 voicebanks. My current hypothesis is that SVS2 renders everything from the point where changes are made all the way to the end of the song data. Only once that rendering is complete will playback be permitted.

Maybe they only tested SVS1 voicebank compatibility on really short snippets of songs and therefore didn't notice the waiting issue?

Having said that, vibrato control points still sometimes need to be "wiggled" in order for the vibrato pitch curve to change. It's almost as if SVS2 is flipping a coin as to whether or not it will acknowledge vibrato changes in SVS1 voicebanks.

By the way, it seems like all the fine vibrato controls from SV1 are gone.
Apart from vibrato envelope which allows to define when the vibrato start and ends and at what intensity, there's no way to control vibrato rate, and on STD banks, the intensity is often capped very low, even at the maximum value.

this just keeps getting worse and worse is synth v 2 gonna flop?
i feel like its important to remember most of what youre likely to hear online are the issues and complaints rather than constantly positive feedback, because people want help with the issues theyre having. so you get lots of online posts about a bug, to seek out solutions, etc. which isnt to say the things being pointed out-- like vibrato control, no presets, or some jpn -> eng cross language being poor-- arent real or valid concerns. but theres nothing pointing to Synth V 2 being a "flop" as far as i can see. we are barely over a week into the software being out.

while we dont know the numbers of sales, i feel like SV has a much bigger spotlight on it than ever before, and its new impressive features and some qol changes for SV2 have also attracted new and old users alike. (additionally i think their new structure for buying their product will lean towards giving them more money too but thats just a theory lol)

personally i wouldnt say any of the previously mentioned issues or lacking features is making this "worse and worse". and Dreamtonics has shown themselves to be very consistent with bringing positive patches and adjustments to SV in the past. keep telling them what you do and dont like, theyve made changes based off feedback many times before. even if it "flops" in the first week, you can still try and make an impact on it being a better program going forward.
