Unpopular Opinions

Frankly, the main concern of both of these is money.

GACKT is INSANELY expensive for recording, and English banks take much longer.
Miriam would have really high licensing fees, and Miriam Stockley would probably charge more for recording.
Frankly, there's like no demand for Leon and Lola, they weren't popular at all. Sorry.

Remember, these are companies trying to make a profit.

I don't know if this is an "unpopular opinion" or not (I haven't really seen too many reactions to it), but InternetCo refusing to give Gakupo an English VB is probably the worst decision ever. I get it takes time, but besides Gumi, who has more than enough VBs, Gakupo is their only other kinda popular VOCALOID. And I know quite a few people would throw money if they made an English VB. (I swear I remember seeing a tweet where they refused to give him a Eng. VB... am I wrong? Because I can't find it at the time of writing this)
To a lesser extent, the same goes for the original three (LEON, LOLA, and Miriam) not getting an update. I know for a fact Miriam Stockley would do it in a heartbeat, though I don't know about LEON/LOLA's voice actors. I feel like it would've been better recieved than the new V5 voices. At least, most of the reactions I've seen to V5 voices have been negative.
Anyway, sorry for the rant. Just two dreams that have died.
Popularity ≠ monetary success. Just look at Seeu.

In InternetCo's case, even the profit of a Gackpoid English VB might not justify the commitment, because of Gumi.
She brings them - beside her voicebank sales - way more money through merchandise and brand collaborations.
So time, effort and money will be more focused on Gumi than Gakupo.

Opinion time.

Miku might be the cause for CV04's development hell, but Kaito unoffically took his non-existent bro's place.

Gumi, Una, IA, Yukari, v_flower, the other 5 Cryptonloids, etc. are not underrated. Don't downplay their success to badmouth a certain Vocaloid.
You can like or hate another popular think without that underdog / hipster mentality.

I like Una's design. My only problem are the colours. They are way too saturated. Instead of harmonising with each other, they all compete obnoxiously for attention.

I agree but I could see a viable reason to call Meiko "underrated" at this point. She has the brand presence but none of the actual use.
That said, my fav vocaloid is near the bottom in popularity, so I look at people calling mid-tier vocals "unpopular" most askance.

The problem here is that his VP is GACKT, who is super-famous in Japan and probably costs a bomb for Internet Co. to get him in to record. I think GACKT knows English, but considering any high costs to create JPN banks from him as it is, and English banks take a longer time to develop, Internet probably doesn't see the monetary worth in making a Gakupo English, especially if there's a high risk he won't sell well. (Japanese producers might not use Gakupo English because of the language barrier, and Western producers have a habit of sticking to Vocaloids that are popular in their circle - hence why some people use the likes of Miku and Gumi English and Luka regularly, but not necessarily other JPN and ENG banks. Also, sales don't always equate to regular usage.)

I've heard before on this forum that updating a VB actually costs more than creating a new VB from scratch, which I find odd. But considering that it's still risky for some companies (especially new ones) to release a VB on Vocaloid as it is (it's hard to compete with the Cryptonloids, Internet Co., AHS, etc.), Zero-G might still see making Miriam V5 too risky even though she's desperately wanted by the fandom. (I do too - Miriam is still my favourite Engloid). Again, sales don't always translate to usage, and sometimes usage doesn't always translate to sales too.

I actually really like Xin Hua's Japanese design...her hair might be the color of pea soup but I like the overall palette. Then again I like Xin Hua's design a lot and just changing the colors doesn't really change my opinion of it

I don't really have that many opinions as such except that I actually like Miku V3 English. Sure, the accent is stronger than V4 but the tone of her voice can be good for certain songs in terms of aesthetic, which is something I feel like most people don't really see

Not sure if this one is unpopular but I perfer Mew's box art over all the other vocaloids, I get the reason everything is anime style is to sell better but it just got kinda old for me. Mew's art looking very different and professional gives me the will to actually take a look at it and try it out then just shrugging it off as just another japanese vocal I'm gonna forget about in about a week. Also most of the box arts look like cases for figures rather than $200 voicebanks

Most companies have to renew their contract with the voice provider, if they want to book them for new recording sessions. The more successful a Vocaloid is, the more money a provider can ask for their service. Their voice is in an integral part of said product's image. That could be one reason why making a new Vocaloid is more profitable than updating one.

It's only a small part of the fandom who really wants an update to Miriam. Most of them didn't support her by actually buying her voicebank in the first place.

Well, Miriam hasn't been available for purchase in almost 5 years, and keep in mind Engloids were basically ignored by the fandom back in the dark weeb years.

I think Miriam could be successful. But it's not a guarantee. (Doesn't help that Miriam's biggest competitor is likely Avanna....ZGs biggest (vocaloid) product.)

I definitely think Miriam could be successful. I've spoken to a good handful of people who really want her but can't get her just because her codes ran out (although another friend who really wants Leon said that when he asked ZG to sell him to him they said no, so I guess they've finished doing the email sales anyway). Although to be fair I'd be down for any V1-V2 Engloid update. Since PFX is definitely not in it, I'm crossing my fingers for ZG, someday. A nice pipe dream to hold in my heart //sob

Here's a big one
The reason no one uses Cyber Songman much
Is because
No watches Cyber Songman songs

EDIT:
Ok, to be less cryptic about this

Of the V4 Engloids, Cyber Diva and Dex have multiple million view songs
Daina has one and a few that are close-ish

Ruby and Cyman do not.
Ruby, known for quality problems, still has 3 approaching 500k.
Songman's top is under 250k. And it's a demo.

Aaaaahhhh this is a big one! I adore Songman so much, but there's so little content for him. I got the VOCALOID5 bundle mostly because it came with an updated version of his voicebank, but V5 is so freaking buggy and overtly complex that I'm honestly considering just buying his V4. Like, I get he's a little hard to tune, but I still love his voice so much!

(I found Fighter when I was in a bad place and it was super empowering, if I'm being honest. That might be why I like him so much.)

I'm guessing V5 in general and his somewhat short timeframe as a V4 kinda hurt Songman as a VB. Aside from being a male VB, and we all know about the male VB curse. Diva in comparison had a slightly longer shelf life on V4 compared to Songman. I love Songman's voice as well, but making him part of a big bundle with V5 and seven other vocals wasn't a good idea on Yamaha's end.

In fact, she had the best possible shelf life as a V4 honestly, since she was only the 2nd V4 released and the first non-update. That feels super weird to me actually... Has it really been 4, almost 5 years?
Songman just got shafted in basically every way possible. Not massively promoted on V4 save for extremely solid demos, and then relegated to a bundle VB on V5 with Chris, who seems to somehow get even more usage than Songman does. Actually unfortunate.

-I prefer Piapro Studio's UI over the Vocaloid 4 editor's UI.
-Rin's English isn't too bad; the tone is quite nice.
-I don't particularrly like the Fukase or Len are "memelords" headcanon. (Where did that come from anyways? I've seen a bunch of talkloids that portray them that way, but can't find where it originated.)
-Len. Is. Not. A. Playboy. (He's 14; he's too young to be a "player".)
-Spice and Magnet aren't that good.
-Gumi's English isn't that good; I personally think Cyber Diva has better English.
-Miku's V4x's English isn't that hard to mix (in my experience).
-Japanese accented English vb's are good.
