I think overall, SynthV has one of the best engines. I remember when the demo was released I was like "whoa! Eleanor sounds so clear and real", and I'd really love to use it more, but, again not enough Japanese vocals for me (though, Peaches, you've now get me eyeing Haiyi for the sake of making her sing in Japanese; her voice is lovely). I haven't gotten to use CeVio much (I had the trial on one of my old laptops and ultimately let it go to waste because I had other things going on), but the one thing that stands out to me is that it has a lot of noticeable engine noise/artifacting in the voices. Sasara has it especially bad. I really like IA English, but the engine noise just ruins the vocal for me. I think she would've benefited more from being a Synth V or Vocaloid.

UTAU was the very first editor and vocal synth engine I used, so I'm probably a bit blind on its difficulty. I think unless you make heavy use of the plugins for it, it's probably very difficult. (I would like to take this moment to point everyone to Zteer's UTAU Pitch editor plugin; I couldn't tune without it!)

Yes! I know people are already saying SynthV is overhyped (which, honestly, I get), but I haven't had issues with engine noise except when having a VB make drastic jumps between notes. Any issues I face are usually a result of the VB, not the engine itself, which is something I can't say about... well, any other engine.

(Do be forewarned that Haiyi can't pronounce "ki" and pronounces it more like "hi" or "bi" depending on the surrounding notes; that's the only "drastic" issue I've run into - she otherwise just sounds like you'd expect a Chinese girl singing in Japanese would sound - but it still sounds awkward unless you can really cover it up.

I agree with with IA english, or cevio for that matter, half of the time I cant really listen to its vbs because of the engine noise :C it's very distinct from the utau/DV one as well...I just don't like it. With that being said!! I'd love to see cevio to grow and improve!

You do see the pitchbends in V5 so at least Vocaloid improved in that regard but any tuning system that works like Vocaloid/SynthV, as in you draw stuff on the bottom of the screen...yea I don't like that, it feels very slippery.

I imagine UTAU must be really diffcult for someone who was mostly used to Vocaloid, it's a lot more manual and there's lots of stuff that just works very different. UTAU was my first editor and I had no expectations going in so that probably helped :yohioloid_smile_lili: but really you gotta find a vb you really love to feel motivated to work in the edior I know I'd be willing to put up with a lot for my fav vbs ghuj

I used to make utau covers all the time but after i got vocaloid and started using that more i hate tuning in utau! ive seen a lot of people on here say tuning in vocaloid is harder but utau is so difficult for me! i want to make more utau covers because there are so many more voice options readily available, but like boo utau also :kaito_lili:

I used Vocaloid waay before using UTAU, and I think I just hate tuning altogether because I hate it no matter the program orz

wish I could like it but it's so... tedious and no interface will ever make it enjoyable for me
UGH i feel this though
I'm bad at tuning. like i've definitely improved since I started, but im like...no mitchie m out here
And it doesnt help that i dont spend a lot of time nitpicking my tuning to be flawless when it gets so tedious and boring. the first half of my cover is always much more loved and by the last 30 seconds of lyrics the tuning is down to like...two pitchbends every 5 words
back when i was new to covers id deadass just stop tuning half way through because i didnt want to anymore and just upload it like that

I mean, to be fair, it's a time consuming task. You do it so you can get the reward of a cover/original you like.

I don't think anyone opens any program and is like "what if i just tune for hours? i don't even care what song"

I mostly wrote my post because I do know people who genuinely do enjoy tuning just for the sake of it and I only wish I could be like them

I always love tuning when I'm starting out on a cover... and then about one-third of the way into it, I hate it and just want it all to end. Most of my covers sound great for the first thirty seconds and then just. Pffft.

I will spend hours happily tweaking phonemes and splicing notes to get Vocaloids to say the ending consonant when I want instead of when they want to (curse you Tonio, and your utter inability to hold a long note as long as it should be, without splicing). And I'll export that as a wav and do a quick messy mix in FL to see how the different edits sound once certain frequencies are brought out, etc, then I'll go back in-editor and edit some more. I do genuinely enjoy that part.

Then I'll tweak GEN, BRI, BRE, DYN, etc, just fine. But once I get to PIT is where I really run out of steam, and will stop a fourth of the way through, and have to force myself to come back a while later LOL

hdjhjdhfkj I feel everybody's comments about tuning so hard because sometimes I really wanna cover a song but don't feel like tuning it and wish I could just will tuning into existence. Sometimes I get bored of it halfway through especially if the song is really long, taking an excessive amount of work, or I just don't like the way it's turning out and don't feel like/know how to fix it.

I think which program is the best is actually really subjective and just depends on personal preference. I really like pitchbending with the pitch helper plugin in UTAU, but I don't like the "vanilla" method of tuning bc it's too tedious to keep right clicking to add control points. Don't even get me started on how much I hate envelopes. What I like about Utau is that I can make really stupid and weird looking pitchbends and it still somehow sounds good.

For dynamics and brightness, I prefer stuff like SynthV/Vocaloid because I'm less worried about precision with those.

Uhhh, yeah. Deep moment over.

The only 2 programs I have are UTAU and SynthV (the trial at least), so I’d like to think that I have both sides accounted.

As tedious as it is to tune in UTAU, for me, it seems to be pretty straightforward. I can’t seem to figure out SynthV’s tuning method. At least in UTAU it’s simpler for me to tune

Not related to this current topic but I almost wrote about it in General Discussion before realizing it'd be more suited for here -

I never really understood the people whose lasting investment/interest in Vocaloid being entirely dependent on what new releases are happening. I've seen people say that since there are no more news, they've lost interest in Vocaloid altogether, and I... don't get that at all? There's tons of content uploaded every single day with the 70+ other Vocaloids that exist; do you just... ignore them? That's not even considering the other synths like CeVIO, Synth V, etc. that exist and get constant news, too. I don't understand getting excited about a new Vocaloid just to ignore them in a few weeks' time. Even for just casual fans who never buy the software, there's tons and tons of stuff to consume like music, art, all that. And then there's actually using the products and creating that content... I dunno. I don't get it at all.

Even if Vocaloid as a software is pretty much done (unless Yamaha has something huge planned), I don't see any reason for the community to slow down. It can just keep going as it's always been, and I don't see any new release making waves anyway, orz.

Ikr? I don’t think I’ll ever have enough money to buy the software but I still listen to the songs.

I actually don’t mind if there aren’t any new Vocaloid releases for a while. There’s so many out there that you could find any that appeal to you. All of the female vocals except for Nana as far as I know sound nearly the same, and a lot of Vocaloids have nearly identical designs too. I feel like maybe there’s been a burnout of vocals

I've seen a lot of people expressing distaste for Mothy's style of tuning, so I guess my unpopular opinion is that I actually like Mothy's tuning a lot! It doesn't sound great in every song (I particularly don't like the style of tuning used in Tailor Shop on Enbizanka), but overall I think it's nice.
(Also, I do think the common V2 issue of talk singing actually works really well in that song; it makes Luka sound like she's actually telling a story, which is cool. That's not really related to my opinion, hdjhjfhjfhdj.)

I’m not a big fan of FL Studio. For the record, I have the trial of 20 and I’ve tried to make MIDI files with it and haven’t had much luck. Why use an overall confusing program that’s stupid expensive if I can just use SynthV’s export to MIDI or UST option to make a UTAU UST?

I honestly don’t get the big deal with the program

See, I never used FL for making midis (outside of making piano instrumentals in DirectWave). I loved it because it was simple to mix my covers in. Everything was very clean and easy to keep track of, in that aspect. I do imagine making midis would be much simpler in SynthV, though.
