Unpopular Opinions

EDIT: this is too short adding another:
"Lover's Suicide in Oblivion" is absolute crap to the point where i thought i refused to listen to anything else with Meiko for a good month after I heard it (my first Meiko song) cuz it made me think she was absolutely terrible
Never heard the song, but the name alone makes me want to avoid it like the coronavirus.

I really hate the downward spiral project diva has been taking over the last few years. I want to be optimistic about the series but everything they do is disappointing now. Even project Sekai is suffering from some of the same issues people had with project diva. I hope Sega will take sometime and try to make a proper game again with all of the things that made project diva F and F 2nd so successful. Or at least port all the mirai and X songs to arcade (and possibly the updated F 2nd PV’s)

Project diva mega mix is a total cash grab cutting half of the song list and selling half of it back to you feels gross especially when it has classic songs like kokoro and meltdown and change me. And half of the 10 new songs reuse the original pv. I feel mega mixed with it because it feels good to finally have a project diva game on a non Sony console. Also someone in Sega please give them teeth.

The biggest issue the series had was when they made project Diva X the game tried to experiment with a completely different PV style (dance only) and it failed because the gimmicks they added to make up for no story PV’s (full versions of songs, changing stages) quickly got boring. Couple that with a very short song selection (24 out of 30 songs are Miku I believe) a step down from F and F 2nd and the set list being very hit or miss (some songs were amazing others were forgettable the medleys were kinda poor) and other small features being cut that made the game easy (Diva room was weirdly cut down, the module and item shop were gone now replaced with a gacha like system, and the voltage gameplay made some songs very easy to complete) the entire game just had no replay value after awhile and was a big failure.

Instead of making up for that failure Sega juts ported arcade to the PS4 which actually went quite well until they stopped porting songs and took like a 1 year hiatus(?) then ported two songs both from Miku and one didn’t have a proper PV. Then after that they took another break until they announced megamix but even megamix dissappointed because Sega again got lazy with the PV’s and gave Miku basically all of the proper PV’s and everyone else video only PV’s (I count Roki as a glorified 2D PV since it’s just an MP4 in game you can’t change the module)

basically TL;DR:
•Too much Miku/ Too much shafting the others
•Lack of proper PV’s
•Not enough songs

(and before someone says “But it’s called Hatsune Miku project diva!” I know but if Sega doesn’t want to do anything with the others just don’t include them. If they’re in the game they should be getting more than one song every few years)

They did port every song from Arcade though? The only ones missing were saturation (gone due to legal reasons) and Kagamine Hachi Hachi Flower Fight (either frame rate issues or the producer hasn't been contactable since 2012, i've heard both). Ghost Rule and Sand Planet were both brand new for PS4 FT.

And honestly, in the case of Sand Planet, why the heck wouldn't they keep the 2D PV, it's one of the most popular PVs out there and people probably would've complained about any 3d vid not being as good.

fatP and Harmonia had a falling out and hate each other enough now they refuse to license the song apparently.

Tfw you actually like the PVs from Diva X. :clara_ani_lili:

Honestly I’ll forever be upset they couldn’t add Saturation because I love that song and it’s so hard to find Diva Arcade consoles unless you live in Japan Same with Hachi Hachi Flower Fight! (At least that one was in F2nd so it’s not impossible to play.)

Honestly, I could go on for ages, but then that would take up this thread, LOL.

Also, it’s great that we’re all getting along and having a nice discussion, but I think we’re getting a bit off topic since this is an unpopular opinions thread! If you all would like to continue the discussion, you can always do so in the “General Project Diva Discussion thread”!:mirai_ani_lili:

To keep things on topic, my unpopular opinion is I don’t like Flower’s voice or V4 design that much and don’t really get the hype. (I feel like she’s hard to understand and that her timbre(?) is a little too thick so she sounds a bit strange!)

Also I love her V3 design! That gothic aesthetic is just my style! She is fabulous!:kaito2_move:

Sorry things got off track I just wanted to post my opinion but I didn’t expect people to actually engage with it ^^” (which is why I didn’t talk in the project diva thread)

I totally get your thoughts on Flower. I like her but honestly I only have a few songs with her I want to listen to because she sounds really flat and boring in a lot of her songs(it’s sad but most songs do nothing impressive with her voice, they kinda leave it as)

I like Flower because she has a really obvious, tomboy-ish voice that remains unusual among Vocaloid VBs in general, not just Japanese ones, and I adore her gothic looking V3 design. But I don't love her enough to put her alongside the likes of Gumi, Meiko, IA and Tianyi in my personal 'Love' tier. Sometimes, she sounds muffled and hard to understand, even in Japanese. (Especially true for her Engrish. I'm pretty sure I've mentioned on this thread before that I don't like her Engrish).

Unpopular opinion: I think Miku/Luka is an overrated ship. Come to think of it, I don't think they sound that great together as a duet either - I find that their voices contrast too much in most duet songs to sound really nice. In both shipping and song duets, I prefer Miku/Gumi and Miku/IA.

Hey, no worries! No apologies needed.

But yeah, totally with you on Flower! I don’t think it’s so much I dislike her voice as much as it is the usage. I just don’t find many songs using her voice in a way that I like!

I was thinking the same thing for a while now, honestly. I feel like Magnet is probably the song that popularized this ship in the first place because it got popular and people all the sudden were all over the ship. (And also since it’s about “forbidden love” I think some people missed the point of what this “forbidden love” meant and interpreted it in their own very… interesting ways…)
(The way some people portray the ship has left a bad taste in my mouth, tbh.)

Also in case that doesn’t count as unpopular opinion, here’s an unpopular opinion:
Miku’s V4x Japanese is not an easy Vocaloid to work with. I like it, don’t get me wrong. But all of her voicebanks sound extremely flat and are generally difficult for me to work with because they just do not respond well to the tuning I do.
Don’t even get me started on how much of a pain her Solid voicebank is to work with.

Miku’s V2 on the other hand, is easier to work with aside from the fact she can sound choppy at times due to having no triphones.

Followup unpopular opinion: Magnet is an overrated song, and it's not even the best Vocaloid song about forbidden love out there. (One of my personal favourites is 'Alluring Secret, Black Vow', even though I don't ship Miku/Rin, which the song depicts.)

I'M SO GLAD I'M NOT ALONE IN THIS!!! I've despised Magnet for so long, as well as the Miku/Luka duet thing, and totally thought I was alone in this. Seriously, it's really not that great of a song overall. I don't like the music, I don't like the lyrics, I don't like anything about it and I've never understood why people loved it so much. I even added a version with Clara and Bruno to my VOCALOID playlist just because I felt so pressured. Seriously, never been so glad to see a post in this thread like this.

That's how I feel about both Miku/Luka and Oliver/Fukase, honestly; mature voice/cute voice pairings can work, and they can work well, but in both instances, I think they clash more than anything, and it just sounds odd unless really well-executed. I feel a lot of people only use them together because of the ships.

On the topic of ships, just out of curiosity, what is the general opinion of Luka/Gakupo? It's like... the only Gakupo ship I've ever seen and I don't really know how I feel about it. Just curious what everyone else's opinions are?
It used to be one of my OTPs. I think their voices go together pretty well, though I don't ship them anymore (but I like to think they're BFFs that support each other in their romantic endeavors); you're right about it being like the only Gakupo ship though. If Gakupo's not being shipped with Luka, he's being shipped with Kaito, and if he's not being shipped with Kaito, it's pretty much random. I ship him with Kiyoteru personally, and I'm also very fond of how they sound together, though I can't make them sound good myself...

I honestly wish producers would release updates to their songs with newer voice banks updates /tuning / mixing. I love a lot of old songs but the age of the voice just takes me out of it. I honestly think this was why meiko and kaito is so unpopular. There are so many rin and Len ballads that just sound so mechanical because they are using act2 and their voices don't fit magic mirror and Gemini come to mind.
