A new demo of Miku NT2 has just been released for the Dark voicebank.


It seems like the Dark voicebank sounds a bit metallic and synthetic to me, in which like any existing NT voicebanks, is still not a satisfying voicebank, in my opinion. Hopefully, it's just my individual hearing issue.

It sounds comparable to V4X to me, though stylistically more like standard Miku than a "dark" bank.

It lacks reverb or other typical vocal processing, so it's a little rough, but not out of the ordinary. I'm thinking maybe...less nasal than the regular NT but kind of boxy or boomy? Not quite sure, but I'm sure it would clean up a bit with EQ.

But as long as they're making alternate voices, that's definitely a good thing.

It sounds more like a muffled version of regular Miku NT than Miku's Dark vocaloid vbs to me.

Tonally I don't think it diverges meaningfully from the rest of NT2, but as a user I do think I would prefer for the color of the voice to be more extreme ("darker"). I think it will be the same as NT2 'original' where the voice is fuller/rounder than NT1 in the mix, but yeah, I think the main thing is that it NT dark has never felt enough like a strong distinct voice delivery for me personally.

For me, the biggest draw of NT is the user interface and workflow, which is at least to me being pretty clearly developed to expand usability and expression for concatenative VBs. Treating them like their own thing/art form. For this reason I think it'd be interesting to see them lean more into expression now that the tone is more stable.

it really depends on the kind of issues Yamaha is having with the Vocaloid 6 engine, but I think a spring release (or at least, a presentation of the features and the box art) is more likely then for summer/early autumn maybe Miku NT2, since the Early Access development is going well

It would be a PR disaster to have something like early NT happen, instead of something representing Vocaloid 6 at its best. So I'm not surprised to see delays.

from what i can see, when downloading og NT from the sonicwire account it directly dls the latest version 1.0.0.8.

Looking at my google drive I already backed it up a long time ago anyway.
