SynthV New Synthesizer V voicebanks: Lin Lai and Yun Quan

Dreamtonics just announced two new Chinese voicebanks, this time intended to give childlike vocals for children's songs:

They're super cute! Like, cute in a down to earth kind of way and not an over the top kind of way. But I can't really tell them apart. I can't figure why they made 2 of them. Or didn't at least find kids that sounded notably different. Anyone who wants to do cute kids songs (or horror songs I guess, the other popular genre with innocent sounding voices) would only ever need to buy 1. Doesn't seem like a great sales approach.

Am I ear blind here? Can other people hear a distinct difference?

They sound super cute! I can tell the difference between the two but I can tell how you could mix them up

I hear some slight differences in timbre in their higher ranges, but they do sound very similar. I assume Dreamtonics wanted to create a boy and a girl for the sake of having both genders, but there's rarely a significant difference between children's singing voices.

They really are quite similar. But there are differences.

It’s very cute. I think it’s funny that the masculine vocal has the same color scheme as gachapin.

I can hear a difference when it's pointed out to me but if I were listening blindly, I could only hear the difference sometimes.
That being said, they sound cute, and really unique for SynthVs. It's interesting that they sound like (and when using AI tuning, sing like) actual children, not cartoon children.
Edit: Also, according to the SynthV Wiki they were announced to coincide with Children's Day

They’re cute, but it kind of creeps me out to have child voiced AI voicebanks. Yuki and Oliver haven’t ever weirded me out even though they were voiced by kids. I think there’s something with the vocaloid engine that makes them sound non real.

Yeah, I think the difference between these two and Yuki and Oliver is that Lin Lai and Yun Quan sound like completely normal kids. Nothing special about them, just regular childrens voices. Yuki and Oliver are both more specific, with Oliver being a choir boy and definitely voiced like one and Yuki has recordings of a sick child, making her voice sound different from a regular child. The fact that Lin Lai and Yun Quan could be confused for, idk, your neighbours kid is what makes them weird.

I think it's important to mention that the description states "singing databases built with the impressions of child singers" not straight up "singing databases built with child singers" so apparently there's a chance these are voice-acted to sound like children data and not straight up children singing data. Of course, I'm personally gonna tread with caution, but if the assumption that they're adult VPs voice acting as children is true then in terms of ethics, using these voices should be okay (its a whole other can of worms on how they're used though...) I hope Dreamtonics' english blog post when these vocals come out offers more insight on how they were made (and preferably which voiced them, adults or kids, but i'm not holding out on getting any answers...)

they sound cute, i guess i find it kinda cool to hear childish voices just in the sense i havent heard much like it since Yuki. itll be good if we get some kinda word on if theyre actually voice by kids or not just for some moral reasons- as im sure some would be uncomfy with it in their own works. in terms of use by others... undoubtedly a lot to say there but thats a place where i give up control of the idea and move on cuz i cant do anything about that. but i look forward to whatever normal cute things ppl do with them
