At least Crypton hasn't gotten rid of Luka V2 and Meiko V1 yet, so you can use their older vbs if you really want the non Miku like sound and are willing to use older software. The downsides are that you're stuck using older editors for them, they're only available as package versions, and still the same price as when they were released.

Another issue is that V1 and V2 might have issues running on modern OSs. I know V1 had some program-breaking glitches on Windows 7 back in the day that were a pain to work around.

They haven’t?! I thought all the V1s got discontinued???????????
V1 is officially discontinued a la Yamaha (and Zero-G's trio), but Crypton still sells Meiko and Kaito V1. I haven't ever emailed for support for them, but they may still support them as well. They're quite expensive IIRC, some $200 each.

Anyway my experience with V1 on Win7 and Win10 was always okay. Sometimes it failed to install, and I'd have to reboot the computer and try again. And the infamous "hold the mouse for 3 seconds and the editor crashes" bug. So you'd just make sure you saved often. It functioned generally alright, aside from the mouse button thing. Sometimes if you ran the program as administrator you could get it to last for 5 seconds before crashing.

That said, my experience with it in Win11 is actually that it installed completely fine AND the mouse button glitch is totally gone. You can hold the mouse down as long as you like. Back before Xitter died (and I deleted my account so I can't go back and check ORZ) I had a short discussion with someone on there wondering how that might have been fixed, from a software standpoint. Since usually old programs degrade on progressively newer OS's, not improve. Someone suggested that something about Win11's memory allocation may have changed. And that somehow that means V1 survives. It's neat!

for older versions of software like Vocaloid 1, there are some things to try:
1) install the NET 3.5 Framework and try the compatibility tool of Win10/Win11, just right click on the .exe file, Properties, choose the Compatibility tab and select "Windows XP" or "Windows 7" from the menu
2) create a Virtual Machine with free software like QEMU or VirtualBox, and then install on it Windows XP or Windows 7(think of it like an advanced PC emulator):
3) if you use Linux, install Wine, which is very good for using any Windows application on Linux, and I know that many Vocaloid software works well with Wine:
4) another alternative might be using ReactOS, a free open-source project developed since 1996 that is basically a reverse-engineered version of Windows, so it can run most of the applications and games:
5) or the easier thing to do, go to Ebay and buy for cheap an old used laptop or office pc with Windows XP/Windows 7 :utaneuta_smile_lili:

Wine (and I assume ReactOS) can cause serious problems with Vocaloid's activations, so I wouldn't recommend trying that, especially not with the touchy V1.

It's rather scattershot whether you will have luck getting V1 to work on Win10 onward or not; Leon above and some others I've spoken to had no issues, but it was a royal pain in the butt to get working for me on Win10, and some others never got it working at all.

Yes, results do seem to vary... if the guides and tips are intimidating, it is worth just trying a normal default install a couple times, but then yes I do recommend following the guide(s)

I'm not sure buying an old Win7 computer just for V1 is what I'd recommend though, since you still end up with the mouse bug. Forgive me, I don't know if it happened on XP. If you're going to try V1 on "modern" Windows, you seriously may as well do it on Win11. At least then even if it DOES end up being a pain and you have to fight it a bit, you come out the other side without the mouse button crash

Not sure if concert opinions count but I don't get why Expo's are so allergic to replaying certain songs again. I'll forever be devastated that I couldn't get tickets in 2016 and they played my 2 favorite songs that year and never again. I really hope they bring them back in the future but I feel like 1 song is more likely than the other. The songs are World's End Dancehall and Magnet btw.

Edit: I've 100% ranted about this on here before.

Probably has been stated before, but I'm not the biggest fan of KAFU. She sounds too much like a chipmunk to me. (Someone please make a cover of The Chipmunk Song with her.)
I'm still annoyed they held that poll mainly for Japanese fans, who vastly preferred a demo VB featuring Kafu sounding closest to the real KAF, only to backpedal and go with a voice that was more unrealistic. I know KAF didn't want a VB that sounded too close to her in real life, but that goal should have been made clear from the start when they announced Kafu. It's also the main reason why Kafu SynthV got canned recently.

I think it's been a while since I've shared an opinion on here, but recently, I've become simutaneously annoyed and amused at DECO*27 fans complaining about their recent songs sounding boring/mediocre compared to their older work. By "annoyed and amused", my extremely unpopular opinion is that DECO's music has always been mid at best, and it cracks me up that some of their fans have only just realised what I've always known for years. 😅

Would it be wrong if I compared DECO to Coldplay's reception in the UK? Because for me, both acts have always been milquetoast and intentionally make crowdpleasing tracks because they can follow trends and adapt when necessary, which doesn't allow for truly interesting music to come from them. Coldplay have also gone through a similarly positive to negative reaction from their longtime fans over their career, even though some British music fans will tell you they were always bland and something of a poor man's Radiohead when they started out.

For me Deco has always been a hit or miss producer. A lot of his best songs either get overlooked or fade into obscurity as time goes on.
