At least Crypton hasn't gotten rid of Luka V2 and Meiko V1 yet, so you can use their older vbs if you really want the non Miku like sound and are willing to use older software. The downsides are that you're stuck using older editors for them, they're only available as package versions, and still the same price as when they were released.

Another issue is that V1 and V2 might have issues running on modern OSs. I know V1 had some program-breaking glitches on Windows 7 back in the day that were a pain to work around.

They haven’t?! I thought all the V1s got discontinued???????????
V1 is officially discontinued a la Yamaha (and Zero-G's trio), but Crypton still sells Meiko and Kaito V1. I haven't ever emailed for support for them, but they may still support them as well. They're quite expensive IIRC, some $200 each.

Anyway my experience with V1 on Win7 and Win10 was always okay. Sometimes it failed to install, and I'd have to reboot the computer and try again. And the infamous "hold the mouse for 3 seconds and the editor crashes" bug. So you'd just make sure you saved often. It functioned generally alright, aside from the mouse button thing. Sometimes if you ran the program as administrator you could get it to last for 5 seconds before crashing.

That said, my experience with it in Win11 is actually that it installed completely fine AND the mouse button glitch is totally gone. You can hold the mouse down as long as you like. Back before Xitter died (and I deleted my account so I can't go back and check ORZ) I had a short discussion with someone on there wondering how that might have been fixed, from a software standpoint. Since usually old programs degrade on progressively newer OS's, not improve. Someone suggested that something about Win11's memory allocation may have changed. And that somehow that means V1 survives. It's neat!

for older versions of software like Vocaloid 1, there are some things to try:
1) install the NET 3.5 Framework and try the compatibility tool of Win10/Win11, just right click on the .exe file, Properties, choose the Compatibility tab and select "Windows XP" or "Windows 7" from the menu
2) create a Virtual Machine with free software like QEMU or VirtualBox, and then install on it Windows XP or Windows 7(think of it like an advanced PC emulator):
3) if you use Linux, install Wine, which is very good for using any Windows application on Linux, and I know that many Vocaloid software works well with Wine:
4) another alternative might be using ReactOS, a free open-source project developed since 1996 that is basically a reverse-engineered version of Windows, so it can run most of the applications and games:
5) or the easier thing to do, go to Ebay and buy for cheap an old used laptop or office pc with Windows XP/Windows 7 :utaneuta_smile_lili:
