Does anyone know where to find secondhand Yumenokessho physical starter packs? I’ve had no luck.
I found every physical voice (without the editor) except HALO (only found the empty box for her). Where else to search besides JP Mercari and Yahoo Japan?

I think secondhand scouring and luck is all you've got for stuff like that. Sadly they're preorder only. And finding a starter pack with good codes is even more unlikely than just the banks. I wish they weren't pre-order only. I didn't get Halo or Pastel 😔

As it's New Year's Eve, I took the opportunity too ...run a bunch of searches on VocaDB and see which SynthV had the most new songs added this year.

VocaDB SynthV song count, all time:

Kasane Teto - 17721
Koharu Rikka - 5340
Hanakuma Chifuyu - 5085
Mai - 4390
Natsuki Karin - 4171
SOLARIA - 3410
Megpoid SV - 3168
Eleanor Forte - 2873
Miyamai Moca - 2231
Stardust Infinity - 2097

VocaDB SynthV song count, 2025:

Kasane Teto - 9555
Hanakuma Chifuyu - 1959
Miyamai Moca - 1847
Mai - 1677
Koharu Rikka - 1514
Megpoid SV - 1503
Natsuki Karin - 1183
ROSE - 989
Otomachi Una - 937
SOLARIA - 868

Comparing the two charts, some general changes to VocaDB popularity have occurred:

Dropped: Koharu Rikka, SOLARIA, Eleanor Forte, Stardust Infinity
Risen: Miyamai Moca, ROSE, Otomachi Una

Methodology notes:
  • Two Koharu Rikka tags were added together, 小春六花 (Unknown) and 小春六花 AI.
  • Eleanor Forte is the only non-AI voicebank featured, her most popular tag is her Lite.
  • All song entries (original, cover, remix, etc.) are included.
  • While VocaDB does have a stats page with graphs, it seems to be outdated, with song numbers not matching search results.

Caveats:
  • VocaDB relies not just on a vocal synth's popularity among producers, but the popularity of a vocal synth among VocaDB editors. As such it cannot be considered a perfect correlation to the overall popularity of any vocal synth.
  • Being a primarily English site, it's biased in favour of vocal synths with strong English-speaking fandoms. Obvious examples are the inflation of Megurine Luka's popularity, and Luo Tianyi being critically under-documented.
  • A single productive editor can boost the number of entries for a particular vocal synth.

Here are the stats if we don't restrict ourselves to Synthesizer V:

VocaDB song entries, all time:

Hatsune Miku - 230152
Megurine Luka - 42743
Kagamine Rin - 34692
GUMI - 27417
Kasane Teto (UTAU) - 25692
Kagamine Len - 25123
IA - 19909
Kasane Teto SV - 17722
Kafu - 17134
KAITO - 12597

VocaDB song entries, 2025:

Hatsune Miku - 32138
Kasane Teto SV - 9555
Kasane Teto (UTAU) - 5766
Megurine Luka - 4691
Kagamine Rin - 4467
GUMI - 3644
Kagamine Len - 3496
Kafu - 2731
Defoko - 2523
KAITO - 2198

Broad observations would be:

Dropped: IA
Risen: Kasane Teto

This also goes to show that a lot of concatenative songs are being added to VocaDB! So if you miss your traditional Big 8 fave, fear not: there are plenty of songs for you to discover.

Just asking about this again but for the regular physicals (not starter pack).

I am loving Synth V. It just sounds so much more real than other software. My only wish is that they do with Hatsune Miku what they did with GUMI, giving her a voicebank. But I'm not sure what that entails with licensing and etc.

As it stands, Crypton are more interested in trying to preserve the unique tones of their voicebanks, rather than making them sound more realistic, so SynthV probably isn't on their radar right now. (It doesn't help they're more interested in trying to make Piapro NT succeed, even though people are way more excited for Miku V6).

Dreamtonics is partnering with Bitwig to offer their DAW for free to anyone who's bought Synthesizer V or Vocoflex! This will be sent out via email.

I think this is a great move, a surprising number of people buy SynthV without first having a DAW. This makes it mutually beneficial: Bitwig gets a customer base of young musicians, and SynthV users get easy access to somewhere they can start their producing journey.

I feel like a big voicetype that hasn't been filled for SynthV yet is that of a genuine child. Vocaloid has two with Oliver and Kaai Yuki, UTAU has SO many, but SynthV doesn't have one yet. I do understand that getting a child's voice might be difficult for legal reasons, especially consent, but I'd still love to see one.

For example, I used to sing in a children's choir, so I have tons of old sheet music that I'd love to make into covers. However, with Oliver being discontinued, Yuki being Japanese only, and UTAU surprisingly lacking voices of this type in English, I really want one for SynthV. It'd be easier to make them sound realistic, and you can have separate vocal modes for choir, soft, sweet, strong, or sad, for some examples.

In addition, Oliver was hugely popular with English fans despite his horribly low quality and Yuki still has a decent niche fanbase, so it's not like there isn't a market for the voice type among fans. And many producers liked Oliver despite the aformentioned quality issues for his unique choral tone, meaning there's a market for professionals out there as well.

There is still the issue of legal concerns with such accurate reproduction and misuse, but I think that a much stricter TOS on content you can use them for would be enough for most people to be discouraged from such use.

we do have some child voices in Synth V, Lin Lai and Yun Quan. and it seems to be confirmed they were voiced by a minor (the sources on this seem a bit vague, maybe assuming. but these two dont sound like they were voiced by an adult trying to sound like a child imo). though them being Chinese and not advertised or presented the way Oliver or Kaai are (with character designs, mainly) has probably left them out of the mainstream fandom attention.

Definitely look into the child voices morrysillusion mentioned! Here's a demo of Lin Lai:
