  • I know Vocaloids are up to interpretation, but am I the only one who kinda sees some personality in their designs already? Like, even for the Cryptonloids:

-Meiko looks very self-confident and boisterous, while Kaito looks kind and welcoming
    -Miku looks confident and cheerful
-Rin looks energetic and curious while Len looks confident and maybe a little grumpy; I can see Rin being more openly childish while Len tries to be mature
    -Luka looks serious and dependable

AVANNA looks so kind I can't possibly imagine her being unkind, and Fuiro looks so mean I can't possibly imagine her being genuinely nice

I share all of this, except Fuiro I'd rather imagine her being the Donna Summer "bad girl" song vibe (minus sexual side) as in, being seen as a bad girl because of her confidence, tongue-in-cheek speaking + her allure and the fact she always seems borderline with the rule but is actually someone honest who sees life as amusement (or tries to when she's getting all blue) and actually seek deep relationships
Half of me wants to tune expressive and human-like, and the other half wants to be the next kz/livetune XD

TBF I don't have to tune the same way every time, I could always alternate depending on the song

I like to be expressive with my tuning, I want to learn how to make a vocaloid sound like they're crying, like they are angry, like they are sad, like they're desperate, but although expressivness is something related to human like tuning, it also don't mean I need to tune it human like. But sometimes I want, at the same time I don't want.

So I understand your pain! XD Kinda... I guess... e.....e

i'm a noob to tuning, but i like to go all out with it..for me, part of the fun with vocal synths is doing things human singers can't do as easily.
I don't headcanon AVANNA as older than she is tbh (unless it's like, slower (or non-existent) elf aging or something). She's got kind of a mature vibe in some ways but there's also a youthfulness to her. Like, her voice is deep-ish but there's definitely a youthful undertone to it for example (I imagine her VP was just in her 20s or so when she voiced AVANNA from what I know.)
not sure i like the new synthv update. it makes it way more unintuitive for me to tune myself, not QUITE on the level of ace studio but almost there....i like tuning myself, and sometimes i'm unsatisfied with the auto-tuning...

i miss just being able to turn off instant mode, instead of having to set each note to manual after it's placed down and then resetting the pitch every time

i guess the days of tuning-style-friendly vocal synths are behind us in favor of a uniform push toward instant realism...i know i sound cynical but as someone who likes to tune, well, as i like, it kinda sucks to me, as cool as autopitch as a feature is
Which Vocaloids do you think would be which Splatoon species?

I think Miku would be an Inkling because it fits her design better (especially with those long pigtails)

AVANNA I can see being an Octoling, especially since her hair is practically just the Tentacurl style (often a bit closer to the Tentatwists in more recent art)

I've already seen a bit of Splatsune Miku/Inku art pop up around Splatfests. I'm all for that being an official collab lol.

Oh gosh, that would be awesome.
Yeah, I think as an American myself, SynthV has been more successful at producing appealing American English vocals than VOCALOID has. Most of my favorite English Vocaloids are non-American, aside from maybe Po-uta, he's pretty cool

(tbf arpabet is geared specifically toward american english so...)
I'm starting to really warm up to CYBER DIVA and wish you could still buy her V4 so I don't have to get the whole V5/6 editor just to use her. So yeah, she's definitely not on my "if-I-get-a-little-extra-money" list unless I find a secondhand seller then. But oh well. I do think she's one of my more liked female US English vocals.
Something that's always bothered me about AVANNA is that she's really noisy on [u:] on C3 and above and I'm not really sure where it comes from

oh yeah, if you turn up the breathiness (pre-v5) on vocaloids it amplifies any noise, just letting people know
i have officially tried having avanna sing in irish! i can now say i've done that haha

the song i tested was oro mo bhaidin, which...okay, i'll be honest, it was absolutely because of sleepyhead by passion pit (malinda and madelyn monaghan also have a beautiful rendition though)
since i have miku and avanna, cute fluffy scenarios where miku teaches avanna japanese stuff while avanna teaches miku about irish stuff aren't out of the question haha

also if avanna spoke japanese it would be with a markedly irish intonation which miku likes to make good-natured jokes about

once miku got good enough at english she acquired the ability to notice avanna's native accent there as well
i love how you can look at avanna and just tell that she likely has a cheerful and kindly disposition. i love good-natured and endearing characters so it's nice to have one that most people agree is that way haha.
i think the thing with avanna pronouncing "su" as "syu" isn't an error, it's on purpose, because it happens on all notes ("sl" sounding like "shl" only happens on higher notes)

i think it might be to make her sound posh haha
anyone have headcanons about languages the vocaloids as characters can speak, even if they don't have voicebanks for them? like gumi and wil speaking tagalog, yohioloid speaking swedish (of course) and avanna possibly speaking irish/gaelic

and also maika being a polyglot of course
