SynthV Synthesizer V Studio 2

I noticed that the accents are noticibly thicker with the cross-language synthesis in v2....
I wish the old demos were still there so I could compare them directly but you're right, I don't remember Yuma ever having such a strong JP accent singing Amazing Grace. Wtf are they doing? Did anyone ask for this?

EDIT: I found the old file and yeaaahhh... this is worse.

I wonder if accents will be adjustable with the new Expression panel? They said 'Raw' brings voices closer to their recordings (more accented?) and Stable brings them closer to a general pristine result (less accented?).

I'm planning on sticking with SV1 for a few patches, as I've learned never to trust the launch versions of new tech, haha. I hope the noise is reduced, as that's a massive pet peeve of mine. I had hoped the reason for engine + vb upgrades would be in part to reduce noise caused by the strain of updates applied to unoptimised old versions, but alas.

Also: Oscar and Xia Yu Yao have their vocal mode demos collated on YouTube!

I personally thought the majority of XLS felt terribly monotonous between vocals. High quality and clear in an americentric way yes but I’m not sure putting national accents in the background and scrubbing away the character of the vocalist in that way was necessarily correct either.

To be frank, it kind of reminds me of people complaining back in the vocaloid 3/4 days about accented English, which was more understandable then when there wasn’t a software developed with english-first in mind and such a wealth of english-first vocals. Now, this seems like an opportunity to meaningfully diversify the “amount of english” available.

Hoping the aforementioned slider will have something to satisfy everyone though.

I am personally pleased with how much Japanese has improved on SV2. The new model is noisier, yes, but potentially more expressive? Will be waiting to try it before making a judgement call.

My one for sure gripe that I may or may not have mentioned already is that the super dramatic autotune vibrato is even more distinct in SV2 which I don’t personally like. I wonder if more “theatric” singing presentations were rated as “more realistic” during user testing. It would explain a lot.

I think I prefer this SV2 that seems to have a distinct design philosophy and pretty distinct backend from SV1 to the alternative future which would be an “SV2” that is more of a direct upgrade to SV1.

I guess the thing is, from the above clip the new XLS also sounds...glitchier?

I don't personally agree with the assessment that it sounds "glitchier", but it is absolutely very different.
oh, i heard some non-accent-related flaws

could be due to the vb not being finalized just yet though? they do have until toward the end of the month to release it

They posted an SV2 version of Yuma's demo song

I think I like the older version better, but not by a whole lot? I feel like it almost sounds like it could just be a mixing difference or something. I'll have to relisten to them when it's not 1 AM lol

I recall seeing that Dreamtonics has confirmed the original version of SynthV Studio will be discontinued (but still usable) after the second version's release, but I can't find the source at this time. It may be worth picking up the first version soon if you're interested in it. *edit* Found it, from their blog.

In other news, they're switching from Lite voices to 7 day trial versions: I appreciate this because the quality gap in lite voices made it hard to make educated decisions on purchases, so a proper trial will be extremely useful. From their newsletter:

Moca SV2 showcase! new vocal mode "breathy"

honestly she already just sounds so good, i cant say the difference of any improvments are too obvious lol. theres aslight more "human" inflection in some areas i feel though. i feel like the vocal modes will really shine even morenow though (they dont seem to utilize the different parts of the knobs in this)

Just a note the trial versions are only usable for 40 notes in a part after that they go silent this can be fixed by cutting the file up but it isn't that uh user friendly lol
Tiny V3 Editor is that you ? //shot
That's actually much worse than Tiny Vocaloid, which wasn't great but you could still play around with a VB for a limited number of bars. SV2 trials sound almost pointless to use if you actually wanted to experiment and see if you like a voice, because 40 notes isn't a lot at all.

I feel I didn’t make it clear and that’s my bad I think based on what I read (not at home rn to experiment) is that if you cut the part into a seperate part it will play the notes past 40 and start a new 40 count in that part so you can have an entire song at once you are just gonna be counting and cutting for a bit. I believe this is how it works
