i have to imagine that issues like HDVM retakes no longer functioning (tho it seems to work for me) would definitely not be there final release, it is a beta after all. much better we're opting in for it than not tho. i know myself and others are always way too eager to see these new things even if theyre broken, so i dont care all too much as long as theyre getting reported and that the final update pushed fixes those issues- which we will have to wait and see how that goes. hopefully dreamtonics can leave a good impression w this attempt at a beta release
Absolutely! The betas help fix problems so that final releases aren’t plagued with issues. The problem is, even then, updates are all over the place in terms of quality, and they affect different things every time. It’s been that way for a long time and came to a head with 1.7.0. You never know exactly how VBs or the engine itself are going to behave from update to update, whether the kinks get ironed out or not. That’s what bugs me personally. The impression DT gives off to me at this rate is that they care less about quality and more about just getting their updates onto market ASAP. As Patuk said, it took one of their partner companies tearing into them just to get them to offer beta releases in the first place. A step in the right direction! But they’re still way off-track.

i definitely dont disagree lol. its just hard to know what changes they will or wont make with the full release at this point- will they go back on changes that altered quality? maybe. will they keep it as is? maybe. im keeping a "dont know till its final, will withhold harsher judgements until they make t5hat move" mindset. i cant be bugged by a beta behaving the way it is though until it becoems "officiail release" tho that isnt to say i their current choices in the beta spell no potential issues

1st the wrong version of Chifuyu lite, with vocal modes and crosslingual gets released and then this rtyu

I'm cautiously excited to see that Ellie's getting vocal modes! Anxious to see how much difference they'll make. Though I've held off on updating for the longest time because I'd heard that past versions made her VB/AI VBs in general sound worse....

Is there anywhere with info on how to update/store previous versions/roll back to previous versions of the engine and/or VBs? I feel like that's the only safe way to update SV at this point. (That'd probably make a good Resource item, if anyone was interested in making one.) From what I recall, updates were handled via in-editor menus, so I'm not sure how you retain the installers for older versions.

If I'm not mistaken, in your documents, along with the dreamtonics folder, you should have "Synthesizer V Downloads" folder which downloads the installer for the editor when you update, so whenever when you updated, it should have the installer saved and archived there unless you manually deleted it.

SVS now let's you have multiple versions of the same vb installed and you can select which version to use, there are unofficial archives of the installers around but afaik companies ( at least some of them ) can provide you with it too, if someone knows more about official distribution do contribute please haha.

Even if you can roll back the vbs in editor, it's still good to archive the editor installers themselves, because depending on the update, even outdated vb's can have different outputs depending on which editor version they're in.

Nice! I found both folders (which thankfully I didn't know about; otherwise I might've deleted the installers to save space). There indeed seems to be a backup copy of the editor in the Synthesizer V Downloads folder.

I sort of wish Ellie's VB itself had similar backup copies, but the Dreamtronics folder only seems to keep the most recent one. (At least, I think.... After I bought SV Pro, I think maybe the editor itself got an update to support AI voices, so maybe Eleanor has never been updated...? That vaguely sounds right....) If you can roll back (or use different versions of) the VBs in-editor, that's reassuring. (Hate asking, but...it does work reliably, right?)

There is a file in the Eleanor_Forte_AI folder, voice.nofs. It's the only file that looks like it could be the guts of Ellie. I wonder if it'd be useful to make a backup copy of that. Though even if I did, I'd be concerned about FUBARing her if I tried to paste it over a newer version, I guess--since I don't know what the file does.

Yeah it's not stored super securely 😭

You can roll back in editor but you have to install those older versions manually, therefore, need to have the installers on hand.

Yeah, voice.nofs is basically the ddb ( etc. ) of SynthV, when you install multiple versions with the up to date editor, you have multiple nofs files corresponding to respective version.

So, just to check my understanding:
  1. To roll back the editor, you would basically uninstall the editor and then re-install it from an older installer. Do you leave the VBs installed, or do you need to uninstall them first also?
  2. For the VBs, you can
    • Have multiple versions installed and just pick an older one if an update doesn't work.
    • Roll back a VB to an older version in-editor, but you need the old installer to do so? Or do you just need the old installer in order to install multiple versions of the VB to choose from in the point above? (Somewhat confused on this point.)

No need to uninstall the editor, the installation overrides the previous one. It gets more convoluted for the voicebanks:
  • In older versions of the editor voicebanks installations override one another.
  • In newer versions of the editor it installs multiple iterations of the same voicebank that you can choose from, there's multiple installers for them as they got updated over the year/s, and it's up to you to manually install and uninstall each version.

Ah, I think I see now. Basically, in the newer editor versions, each update is installed separately with its own installer, and they can all be run side by side. You can also choose to manually uninstall any versions you don't want to use, whether those are old versions or newer ones, and to reinstall any versions for which you have installers.

Thanks!

Volor has finally released an official statement regarding Eleanor’s boxes! Long story short: they’re not happening and refunds are still being processed.

I remain critical of them because they shouldn’t have waited over half a year to say anything, but I’m also happy they’ve finally addressed the situation rather than continuing to ignore it. I hope they get thing together eventually!

EDIT: Someone in the quote tweets mentioned that, since Anicute is based in Taiwan, Taiwanese customers are able to pay for orders in cash at their local participating convenience stores, leaving the question of how such customers will be refunded up in the air. Honestly I’d like to know that too, because I didn’t even consider it. 😅

Someone else suggested that Volor could release a free PDF of the art that might have been used for the physical boxes. That would definitely take out some of the sting of the whole fiasco.

In other news, her vocal mode update was re-added (I have yet to test if it's the same installer as before or not)
!!!

Someone posted a fan design
I feel sorry for the folks who ordered boxes and have been waiting all this time. And especially for anyone who paid cash whose refund is...uncertain.

That fanmade box looks nice. After over a year's time from the original mockup art from Volor, I can finally look at the stylized "e" and get myself to not see an "&."

Speaking of ANiCUTE, I noticed that the Cangqiong voicebank is somehow out of stock right now.
I really wonder if it's either they ran out of her codes or they somehow give the users used codes instead of new codes?
