Fruit and cheese seems to be some kind of thing--I mean, they have fruit and cheese baskets. It's probably something somebody tried way back and they historically got paired. I did a little
research; it seems to have to do with the flavors, and how they supposedly complement each other. Sort of like how different kinds of wine supposedly go with different kinds of fish/meat/etc.
Personally, cottage cheese in general isn't a favorite of mine. I've eaten it, even liked it, but it was more of a small-doses thing. If I eat it too much, the flavor/texture gets to me. Kind of a lumpy, squishy, sweet cheese that sometimes breaks up into sort of a dry-feeling salty/cheesy powder when you chew on it...not entirely my thing.
I'd be curious to try it on crackers, though; that sounds like it might have possibilities, at least for the short while that I'd eat the cottage cheese. It'd probably have to be the right kind of crackers, though--I'd think soup crackers wouldn't be much good, but...er, party? (The ones people put slices of meat or cheese on at parties.)...crackers might be ok. Even graham crackers seem like they might work.
