Unpopular Opinions

I think that was moreso due to some vocaloids being hurt by it like Arsloid and any other vocaloid with a ton of compatible voicebanks. But yeah most people didn't use it too much. :/
Arsloid is the only vocal really hurt by it- vocals like gumi never got anything out of it, they already had enough variety.
And nobody used Arsloid.

I LOVE XSY and you can pry V4 from my cold dead hands. I get why it wasn't popular but I really love experimenting with it, and I think it can make Lily and IA in particular sound better

Although at the same time I don't dislike V5 (which is why I wish I could use 4.5)

Sakura Miku is cute but I feel Crypton show her around too much for what essentially is just a regular pink Miku. Not even her outfit is different like Snow Miku :s?

The plethora of Miku designs out there is mostly thanks to the creative culture Crypton likes to cherish. It's natural that artists want to make their own designs, and sometimes those designs end up gaining attention and becoming established officially. Many Project Diva modules started off as fan designs through design contests or as CD jacket /PV designs. Different promo collaborations involving Miku often have dedicated designs too.

As for Snow Miku, it makes sense to have a design that fits the Snow Festival. Or Racing Miku, being a mascot for a racing team, is naturally given a fitting design for that purpose (eg. Race Queen). Changing these designs yearly helps keep it fresh and interesting (coughas well as being able to make new figures and goods to cash in withcough) And, especially with Snow Miku, keeps up the creative culture, since Snow Miku design contests are open for anyone.

On the topic of Sakura Miku, you have to understand how important the cherry blossom season is in Japan. Hanami is a really a big festival, so big that, for example, every spring TV channels (and other media) put out daily forecasts on when the cherry blossom starts in each part of the country. The fondness Japan has towards cherry blossom and hanami kinda explains how a cherry-themed design of Miku got so popular and why she's used so much during the season of spring. Sakura Miku started off essentially as a fanmade recolouring of Miku, but gained popularity so much it was picked up for official use too, and made into Nendoroids, figures and other merch. Since her Sakura design is tied to the springtime, it makes sense you see it around a lot now.

Sorry for the longish post, I just couldn't resist commenting. But to sum it up, different Miku designs for different purposes.

I wish there were Sakura Miku design contests like they do with Snow Miku. It's boring seeing the same Miku recolour every year in both official and fan art, especially when Snow Miku isn't always represented by a blue and white Miku recolour anymore.

This would be amazing! Maybe someone could suggest it to CFM.

Also, don't know if it's an unpopular opinion. I think CFM should ditch the Vocaloid engine and do their own thing.
They already have Piapro Studio, so they don't have to start from scratch and maybe the quality of their voicebanks
could improve. Their voicebanks are popular enough that they don't have to rely on the Vocaloid brand anymore.

Maybe this way, CFM won't feel the need to rush their products...

I'm pretty sure they would still have to start from scratch. Piapro Studio is just an alternate "skin" for the vocaloid editor.

I don't know how unpopular this actually is but - I hope they keep adding Shake It! to Magical Mirai's setlist. it's a song that never fails to make me smile and dance around and I feel that MM would feel a little bit empty without it, considering it's been there since the beginning it's a bit like the theme song for me c:

Dunno if this qualifies as an unpopular opinion, but regarding the song 'Senbonzakura', I'm not sure which two groups are more annoying - the Japanese right who interpret the song as a patriotic/nationalist/fascist anthem, or the social justice warriors who complain about said Japanese far-right liking the song and bashing anyone else (especially Western fans) who does like it.

Since it's a song about Japanese imperialism, I will admit it is a bit uncomfortable to listen to as a Brit - thousands of British soldiers died in the Pacific theatre at the hands of the Japanese during World War II. I still like the song, but I'm not going to ignore or dismiss the implications of it just because I like it. At the same time, however, I'm not going to put up with people bashing me for liking a song that happens to have unfortunate implications (and an unsavory fandom). ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

It's technically a well made song, but I just really don't like "Miku" by Anamanaguchi. To me it's like the antithesis of everything I love about the creative side of the fandom. You have some of the coolest and unique soundings songs ever, and the one that gets attention is the most generic "2010's pop" song imaginable?

Well, in all fairness, Anamanaguchi is very well known. The song was commissioned by Crypton, after all. Happens on the JP side too; boring songs by popular producers get more attention than songs like the one in my PFP by relative unknowns.

My opinion: I like Meiko, but a large fraction of her popular songs are either really boring (Piano x Forte x Scandal, Evil Food Eater Conchita) or completely awful (Nostalgic, Lover's Suicide in Oblivion).

I always hate that Nostalogic is Yuukiss' most famous Meiko song when songs like Kurenai Beat are RIGHT THERE :ring_ani_lili:

Anyway, now that we have Chiyu... VOCALOID's system for Chinese might be the worst out of any synth I've seen. Completely nonsensical phoneme-wise and has a breakdown if you don't use it in a very strict manner. Genuinely can't wait for Xingchen to get onto SynthV and wouldn't be opposed to VSinger moving too. (I have a similar opinion regarding IA English, especially w/ the CeVIO update she sounds far better than she ever would have on VOCALOID imho)

I used to be kind of indifferent about Synth V but now... I think I'd prefer to see new vocals on that rather than on Vocaloid? Idk it just kinda seems that Dreamtonics actually wants to keep improving their own synth whereas Yamaha doesn't care much if it makes sense. It's a shame because I thought the new guy in charge would make this generation be like what V3 was. :/

But maybe we will be seeing some larger improvements once V6 arrives since there's now better competition when it comes to voice synths. I also feel that if there's one thing that voice synths should come with, it's a function to make the voice talk (like Voiceroid. Actually, I think Cevio already has this feature which puts it ahead of the game). Although, I'm not sure how difficult or easy this would be for certain languages...

I wish Vocaloid had a function to simply make the VB talk, not sing too. It would make recording a ton of talk samples for certain VBs redundant (let's face it, not all producers use all the separate talk samples, especially if they number in the hundreds. Some producers just don't even bother using them at all), and for the VBs that don't come with them anyway, you could just have them talk if you want to without really tinkering with the program just to get it to sound right.
