I like Avanna's voice at a certain pitch. More around the higher pitched voice she had in Sad Machine. It just doesn't sound right to me otherwise
I think Anamanaguchi's "Miku" is an overrated song. IMHO it's not that good, actually I wish I didn't have to hear it at the next Expo I go to, but I'm afraid they'll cling on to it at western concerts.
I can agree that it's rlly not that great of a song.

While I like Anamanaguchi’s Miku, I wish that wasn’t their go to English song for concerts (isn’t that pretty much the only English song they play outside of song contest ones?). I want to see a wider variety of English songs because there’s a lot of great but less popular producers out there. The little guys need their time to shine, too.
(And also I want to see more English songs in concerts so I can discover more since YouTube pretty much fails me in that department.)

Not sure if that was unpopular, so I’ll follow with this:
I kinda don’t get the hype around Yukari? I feel like her voice is just kinda flat and not super-interesting. (Not trying to say she’s bad, she’s just not my cup of tea!)

I kinda agree, but it's better than their old go-to "Sharing the World" - at least "Miku" is like, understandable.
(I feel the same way about IA lol, she's very forgettable to me. She can sound nice tuned well but I don't hear her and think "wow she sounds awesome" a lot.)

I feel the same way about both of them, honestly... I've heard exactly one usage of IA that just blew me away -

- which I can't really say about Yukari (I love Check Check One Two and Chururiri Chururira Da Da Da, but you could replace her with any other vocal and I'd still like them just as much), but I don't much care for either of them. They just... sound dull to me.

I'm with you both on the IA thing. I don't care enough about Yukari to have an opinion (other than the fact that she and Kiyoteru sound really great together). But I remember when IA became really popular back in like... 2016? And I listened to her and always wondered what, exactly, made her so amazing. I don't dislike her. But she really doesn't sound memorable to me. Her voice can get annoying is pitched too high, quite frankly.

I don't think it's really IA herself that people like (I mean, of course people like her for her, but I mean in a general "this is why she's popular" sense) -- it was Kagerou Project/Mekakucity Actors that popularized her, and that started all the way back in 2013 iirc. It was also the start of the "Vocaloid is dying" trend because everyone wanted to do the same thing and started making song series with their own original characters, and the Vocaloid characters themselves drifted away from the spotlight. (Semirelatedly and I've probably talked about this before, but I believe Vocaloid is more popular than ever right now -- it just doesn't seem that way since a lot of popular producers aren't really using the Vocaloid brand to advertise themselves now. Instead, you'll see video titles like "[Song name / Producer]" with millions of views with no mention of a Vocaloid, but it's very much a Vocaloid singing the song. It's interesting.)

I don't really have much of an opinion of IA myself and I don't think it's popular or unpopular at this point to say you like or dislike her, but this is my favorite IA usage of all time:

As for Yukari, I think she has a really rich, "mature" (not the most mature out there but it's definitely not super cutesy) tone. She sounds exactly like her VP and no other Vocaloid sounds even remotely similar to her imo. I am... kinda picky with how some producers use her though (Kurage's Yukari is okay, but their songs are way out of her range and she sounds very strained in them orz), so in light of sharing my favorite IA usage, I'll also share my favorite Yukari usage that also utilizes her VOICEROID and exVOICE:

I've seen a lot of people say that Yukari is hard to use, but I really don't think she is. She sounds really good even untuned, and that may be where the issue lies? She has automatic endbreaths which may mess with the way some people tune, and those who tend to do a lot of vocal editing may find her hard to work with. But Yukari sounds really nice even untuned, at least I think so. (Of course, I've heard heavily tuned Yukari usages that still sound really good too, so that's not to say people shouldn't tune her too much, haha. But it's just why I think people may find her difficult orz)

(Kind of started rambling at the end there, but I hope this was. somewhat followable)

Ugh I remember on VO for a while everyone got really mad about this?? Someone was like "Vocaloid is dying because everyone's making original characters for their songs now so no one cares about vocaloid anymore boo" and then for a good period of time on there there were a lot of people that were very anti-ocs in vocaloid songs because they attributed it to the downfall of vocaloid. it was really annoying imo

Admittedly, I always thought that Jin's songs must be popular more for the story because the songs are eh and the tuning is....not great (excluding the later ones).

I think there are a few other vocaloids that kinda sound like Yukari but tbh she isn't that "samey" or anything? Like there are just as many Miku-ish vocals as Yukari-ish.

Honestly people being against ocs in Vocaloid songs is still super common nowadays too, because of nostalgia, I can't believe people have been talking about it for so long! I feel like vocaloid fandom is too diverse to say if this is an unpopular opinion or not, but I personally love seeing people OCs in songs sometimes moreso than Vocaloid characters

I think a lot of people don't see the "hype" around some of the V3 vocals back then because they weren't around/don't remember what a big deal they were. IA was seen as an amazing Vocaloid back then, her voice was unique and well, one of the first popular producers who used her was samfree, releasing IA IA★Night of Desire just 3 days after her release. You can just imagine how that created a hype. Also, don't forget that IA came out in 2012, that is 8 years ago. Lots of things changed in 8 years, so what was amazing back then is maybe just okay now. Same goes for Yukari who released in 2011 (but just a month before IA). But Yukari is even more special because she was made for the producers, as far as I remember, and not just for the whole fandom generally. Everything was picked out for the wants producers had back then and well, they loved her so she got popular. But like I said, 8 years is a long time, things change.

Also IA was voiced by Lia a popular singer and is one of the vocaloids that sound exactly like her voice provider when tuned. It's appealing to producers to have a Lia in a box. I think also a lot of the original charm of IA has eroded with time when people started pitching her up and not tuning her. She also had her own rhythm game for the vita. Also this was at the time where the past vocaloids haven't been updated so the bump in quality was there. I think another reason why she's not as impressive anymore because her Japanese hasn't been updated since they moved to cevio. Also is H dead?

Also I think some of IA's popularity came from 1st Place backing people to use her? So that helped her a lot out the gate. She's one of those voices that sounds meh when plug n' chugged but really great when tuned properly. I've never been a stan myself, but she's definitely good! Although I'm not a fan of English unfortunately asjdf;lsa

I think ia English will final shine when cevio pro comes out. I did think it was a bad on first place to not originally say she was for cevio and then give us a voice that sounds nothing like ia.
