I'm kind of curious about people's thoughts on electronic picture frames. Does anyone have one/know someone who does?

I feel like these came out and then sort of disappeared, except for the ones that reappeared more recently with videoconferencing functions (e.g., the Alexa one or the Facebook one).

There was always a part of me that thought they'd be kind of cool for showcasing anime/vocal synth artwork. They'd be more or less inconspicuous, and they could store as many of your favorite pics as you need. Especially if they had a slideshow feature, they would also be really good if you liked a lot of art/pics, but had limited space.

But I never really pulled the trigger on getting one. To begin with, they're electronic, so you have to have either a battery or plug them in. If you think about it, most of the pictures in your home are probably things you don't look at every day. So something that draws power constantly seemed inefficient. The other thing is, I think wall-mounted pictures/posters/etc. are really only appealing if they're available the moment you want to see them. If you can't just look up and see them, for me at least, it seems like there's little point. In the little research I did, electronic frames don't seem to show their pics all the time (to save power/the battery/prevent burning-in of the screen, I suppose).

I don't know, those are just my thoughts. To be honest, I'm not really considering getting one at this point, but I've been curious for awhile what other people think/how popular the electronic frames are.

Someone once gave me one as a present and I promptly either returned it or gave it away. (I can't remember) I'd rather have a regular frame and just print out a photo to put in it if I were going to have photos around, but I don't generally like having them around.

I think a nice art wall scroll or art frame is better, because it really gives atmosphere to the room (and the price is always good and you can easily change wall scroll with another one).
I understand the appeal of electronic photo frame, there are some good products in general (I remember there was even a Sony photo frame), but you might have a better product by making it by yourself: I mean, if you buy a cheap Android tablet and a stand, you already have one, or you can buy a mini pc fanless (150$ price average and they use little power, about 6W) and use a 24 inch monitor to display both photo and video of your choice. The plus of having a tablet or a mini pc is that you don't have only a photo frame, but a full device that you can use to also surf the web, listen to music, even play some games (mini pc are perfect for retrogaming with emulators), and most of all, you have choice of what you can do on it ^-^

This song used to have coherent color coding of its various regions in my DAW.

Somehow, it no longer does .

I like how people have strong opinions over what color different instrument parts should be. (#TeamBassIsPurple)

I also set my vocal tracks to be the same color as the voice bank being used.

I usually let Studio One pick the initial color (though sometimes not), and then change the hue/color based on the function of that MIDI part in the song. For example, the intro of the song might be whatever the default was for that track, and then the verse might be a darker hue or different color, and the chorus will be still different. Oddball/filler bits I make a different unused color.

And then I add flags into the marker track just to make seeing the different sections even easier.
Why do people expect Vocaloid\UTAU voice to sound the same once it's been remade into AI?
It's already been made clear that the voice providers sound different than the old synthesizers.
Why put in such an expectation? Vflower's voice is clearly machine-sounding and all of it's traits are due to the compressed nature of the samples + the Vocaloid3/4 engine warping them.
Of course the VP can't sound the same. I see people make remarks about UTAU Ritsu sounding better than the AI Ritsus when it's clear that the UTAU VB samples were cherrypicked to sound consistently shout-y to a non-human level. Nobody sings like that. Canon doesn't scream when she sings, it'd strain the voice too much. Of course the UTAU is going to always sound powerful when the samples were made and picked to sound that way.
I think it's unreasonable that people think the AI is simply going to be "automatic tuning generator" when the AI is actually a recreation of the voice provider's singing.
Training an AI voice directly on top of the UTAU rendered voice is going to make it sound low-quality due to the double synthesizing.
I get that we all have nostalgia for the old chunky sound of a previous generation synth, but AI is more welcoming to producers who don't want to deal with all the manual tuning. It's simply easier to use and sounds better by default.
And we can still keep our copies of the old previous gen synth.

AddictiveCUL, are you seriously trying to imply that people who use SynthesizerV are not artists? What? You do realize tons of early Vocaloid producers didn't even tune their vocals and just left the raw render on top of the instrumental, right? What's so different about this? All I'm trying to say is that AI creates a quicker result with less effort, and if you still want to put more effort in, you can do that. You can achieve style with SynthV voices, too. I'm genuinely confused.
If the AI version "shouldn't" sound realistic, then what is the point of upgrading the synthesizer? Why even develop a new renderer? What do you expect AI to be? This isn't genAI we're talking about, it's SynthesizerV and it's equivalents. They're still as much of an instrument as Vocaloid is.
You just seem to be very against SynthV for no reason whatsoever. Is this a cause of brand loyalty/nostalgia?
In the end, we still have to make the background track ourselves, so why force the musician to add more lengthy processes to their work? Isn't the fact they made a whole song already artistic enough? This isn't about cover tuners, you know.

People got used to how characters sound after so many years and how the engine noise affects the voice which becomes part of their brand. Crypton got so much shit from the Japanese side about how different Miku Append sounded from default Miku V2 and many Vocalo-p even boycotted Miku Append for a short while until more songs showed the voicebanks potential. Most just want more ease of use while retaining the unique sound the vocal character is associated with. It's nothing new that people will throw a hissy fit if an established and beloved character's image and voice is drastically changed into something unrecognizable.

I make peace with it, don't like to talk about this subject too much because, peoples are different so their opinion.

I have utau vs synth v cover the same song and i give them the same attention to detail and both are sound good.

But AI is not just AI though they are different, let say most homemade utau to AI is just using nnsvs or rvc and just slap some performance that rip from someone else without permission. SynthV have their own method, Yamaha have their own AI, neutrino is a little bit different but at the end it sound just as good as paid editor like synthV

At the end of the day like 80-90% of listener only care about results. If the song good, it's good.
If you look at vocaloid in 2005-2010 most of the song that use un-tune vocaloid and some of those song are one of the most iconic song.

Peace!

Mai latest wip because mixing the medley is hell on earth lol so Im taking a long break... first time using Mai and I'm not that big a fan? shes good but lots of loud recordings that you have to fix and she handles pitch way differently than Feng Yi but the price can't be beat! Shes a place holder until Miki is released :) I tried to base the tuning on Shizuku (feng Yi... which is what I try to tune Feng yi like anyway sooooo) and Airi (Mai) from project sekai for this song ;-;
The vocal synth collectors thread has taken quite a shape! Several synths got completed 100%, several above 60%, missing Cantor and much of V2, V3 and Voisona.
Okay...I think I'm going to finally set on getting a HDD for my laptop. For my Music/Videos/and spare copies of my vocaloids and editors with a doc of all their codes. Than maybe I'll just get a yearly Onedrive of 100 GB for just my Word docs of my fanfics and original stories attempts (only like 1 complete novel...lol, and a halfway done one from long time ago)
There is a Toshiba Canvio Basic of 2TB I'm thinking of getting, but it's in Amazon. Or a 2TB Western Digital from bestbuy....I just need to remember my password...:kyo_ani_lili:
man im annoyed i worked so hard on that avril lavigne cover with yi xi only to not be able to post it anywhere bc of copyright claims lol. i wanna post a cover with yi xi but idk what i want to make now...

This is why I'm a bit sad about returning fully to UTAU and still keeping with Vocaloid, cevio etc because I've been so salty about that one old SC bad experience that now I hesitate to post anything that isn't an original of mine... So atm I've started to put a few on Google drive but it isn't extensible....

yeah i usually post my copyrighted stuff to Whyp.it (which i used to use clip.it but they changed to being paid) and try to link from there, but ya know. its not a platform people are just on- like soundcloud or youtube. i struggle more with soundcloud than youtube so i honestly barely post there, especially with its post limit.
someone save the cryptonloids from piapro nt, i just listened to cute na kanojo from proseka WTAF did they do to Luka :kaito_lili::kaito_lili::kaito_lili:
I think judging voicebanks from demo is like judging book from cover. Why don't people just try it themselves before give an opinion. Bashing vbs without even try is not cool.
wrong_thyme

i get the sentiment, but it's kinda difficult for ppl to try every voice themselves when not every vb has a trial version :x
VyNancyV6

I mean you have a point...

but why does Books have cover in first place?
IO+
IO+
Wait. Not every vb has trials? which one?
If that so, i think people can still search original songs or covers on internet. Although, some new vb might take a little longer for people to start using it.

@VyNancyV6 The "true" purpose of book cover is to protect the pages behind that cover. Simple as the name suggest, but we put design on it to make it more appealing and increase sale. Meanwhile it letting you know what type of book lies within the pages and whether it's for you using some quick visual cues.

The way peoples bashing vb is like calling any DAW suck a** because they don't know how to use them and they don't want to spend time learning it either. I find that unfair to any companies, at least give them a chance, try them thoroughly and then giving an opinion.

I use to hate Reaper but the more i learn about it the more i love it. Although it's not perfect, but i accepted the way how it work as it is.
Starting to refine my Vocaloids' personalities:
-Miku is outgoing, kind, intelligent and altruistic.
-Gumi is laid-back, easy-going and cheerful, an optimist who goes with the flow.
-Avanna is gentle, reserved and polite, with a heart of gold.
-Not a Vocaloid, but Teto is cheerful, eager, and determined, with a mischievous streak and a desire to prove herself. (also she's really fun to draw)

Awww, Avanna is so cute! *3 She deserves the world. My HC is if Avanna was a superhero she would have plant superpowers, but would use them to heal not to cause harm (Except for needed situations (Pretty much like that plant girl from Sky High, man that movie is chaotic and pretty good))
I finally got Word again after so many years without it, like a week ago...but the day after Onedrive is expired and I have like a month or 2 left before I lose so many important stuff (like V4 to V6... and FL Studio) just my luck!! 😭
I still need to get a better SSD for my laptop. But I think I need to get something else that will save all my files to transfer to the new ssd? *sigh* unless i bite the bullet and just buy a yearly onedrive.
MagicalMiku

exactly, I agree to both of you! ^^
synology nas is a very very good backup option, I'd just recommend to have another hard drive disconnected from power (a thunderstorm for example can cause problems).
and the "bit riot" of hard drive is correct, also being them a mechanical thing, is always better to make them run once every 6 months. thankfully, if some bits are being corrupted, most of times a media file (document, photo or video) can still be opened and viewed, and with utilities like crystaldiskinfo is possible to check how well a hdd is going.
I usually use hdd from Western Digital and Toshiba, never had any failed hdd. Only 2 times I had a broken hdd brand-new but because I ordered from amazon and the package was terrible. whenever possible, I always recommend to buy from a local pc store.
and I was curious about the "1 year life" of ssd, and actually tried on a mini pc with 1 tb ssd on it: kept it off for 1 year, kept at room temperature, and after 1 year, many system files were corrupted and some personal folders were missing.

I usually make a tier list of my files and then backup them accordingly:
tier 1) most important personal files (documents, photos, videos, anything that is really valuable and personal)
backup at least in 2-3 different external hard drives, plus dvd/blu-ray disc, free cloud storage (all encrypted in 7zip files) and buy new backup hdd every 3-5 years
tier 2) important files but that I can have them again (for example flac backup rips of cd audio, backup of blu ray concerts, pixiv image galleries of my favorite artists)
backup in 2-3 different external hard drives, some blu-ray discs and even some usb pendrive (the 128/256gb are very cheap, I know is not a safe backup option, but for that price it's ok)
tier 3) files that I have for convenience of not downloading them again (think of software setup files, game installs, ..)
backup in 2 external hard drives, usually I use older hard drive from tier 2 for this

I only have a laptop. A lenovo yoga laptop since I got it after years with my Toshiba laptop like 3 years ago? It's not a perfect laptop but i really wanted a laptop and chose it right away from bestbuy.
Sometimes been thinking of buying the stuff to buy a custom PC, but that's a far goal since I already have a long list of stuff to get. X D

But I'll look again into the hdd, since I only looked a bit in Walmart of them long while ago. :mikiv4_lili:
