Hm. Which do y'all prefer? I wanted to capture both the raw power and emotion of the original, but in trying to do both I fear I did neither. I mean, the power's good on the first one but just making it straight-up harsh screaming takes away from the emotional punch, so I tried lightly mixing in a more straight-forwardly screaming Len and I don't know how well it works. So I threw in the Plain Screaming Len as well, because I think it has more of that emotion I'm going for, but definitely lacks the power of the first.

Basically, I like them both but can't decide which has the better potential and the best bang.

    Ooh, they both sound interesting. I think the top one works well for a longer amount of time. The bottom one is cool for being perhaps more raw, but if it were shorter or there were perhaps more pitch changes earlier on, I think it would fit better. Hopefully that makes sense;
I dig it. Did you add some reverb? I think that would help too

I think the first one sounds more powerful and fitting with the background music. The second one distracts me from the music, and thus doesn't blend in very well.

Thank y'all! That answers my question: top one it is! (I can't shorten it because the scream in the OG goes on for that long, and it's Too Fucking Iconic to shorten, so I'll be polishing the top one so that it sounds more varied and doesn't get stale.) And it's got a little reverb on it, but too much dampened the harshness; it's supposed to sound like his throat is being torn from the inside-out, so I don't wanna smooth it too much! Ah, now I can confidently go forward. Thank y'all!
I had lunch with my dad earlier and told him about my efforts to start writing again and how poorly it's going. I admitted that, honestly, I feel like I have nothing left, like I'm not a good writer and never was and never will be.

He just kinda looked at me for a moment, and then he said, with the straightest possible face, "She left centuries ago." (That's the closing line to a fic I wrote years back, one that actually successfully made him, a man of few tears, tear up.)

And I think... I think he has a point. He read that one fic in 2016ish and it left such an impact on him that he still remembers the final line. Who's to say nothing else I've written since then has made a similar impact on someone I don't even know? What if there's someone out there who occasionally remembers "Almost reverently, like a prayer" or "He could be on fire and I wouldn't walk across the street to piss on him!" or "That's called a crush, onii-chan" and finds themselves smiling a little bit because of it? Just because I can't see them and I've never met them, that doesn't mean such people can't exist.

Maybe that's just me being delusional and willfully egotistical though. I'm conflicted. I want to think "If I make even one person happy, it's worth it!", but then that requires me to assume my attempts at throwing words together into a narrative is making ANYONE happy, which is Really Fucking Narcissistic of me, y'know?

Aaaaaaaaaaaah I don't know what to do. orz

I wanted to be supportive, but I think my post might have been condescending. I'm sorry if it was, @peaches2217.

if being motivated by the joy of even one person finds in your work is narcissistic then i would be too, and so would every artist i know. like- i get it, i very very much do. i feel like i could say a whole lot on this topic through the years of chasing people's expectations and finding validation in people's joy from my work but im too brain dead to word it. the best i can say is: it is never wrong or false to think at least one person found joy in your work. it is never selfish to be motivated by that fact either. there is no required assumption that youre projecting a narrative that people who dont like your work do- you said it yourself, your dad seems to be one of those people who found joy in your work and even he can be that 'one person' right now. maybe theres more too, in the comments or likes youve gotten.

point is- youre not weirdly egotistical for finding validation or motivation in the positive ways you work touches others. it is, imo, the most expected feeling from putting creative work out there. i know its easy to get negative in your situation so i hope you know you have a lotta people liking your work and its true you probably dont even know it! youre allowed to enjoy that feeling.

@mobius017 not at all! I deeply appreciate it... and I'm surprised you remember that writing class incident, even I'd forgotten about it 😅 You and @morrysillusion are right! Even if my works don't have a huge reach, I've made at least a handful of people happy, and that's valid, isn't it? Hhhhhhhh I have to think about this more, because I'm so expertly skilled at running myself into the ground that I have trouble differentiating healthy pride in myself and a full-blown ego trip, making my expectations for myself especially skewed. But thank y'all so much! I'm gonna try going back into this with a renewed mindset.
Why the FUCK does Azuki keep uninstalling herself

It's never Matcha! They never commit metaphorical lover's suicide! It's just Azuki who keeps self-terminating!

    Whyyyyyyyyyyyyy
Is there a method to restore fullness to tracks that you've ripped the vocals from? Because I've got a REALLY good vocal-instrumental splitter, but on softer songs it has a habit of dropping spontaneously, and I don't know how to counter that.

It's the best been using it for a big project and it a life send
I’ve been trying to branch out more with my fashion, because it’s been drilled into my head all my life that, since I’m fat, I shouldn’t venture outside of tees and jeans. And dammit, I’m almost a quarter of a century old, I’m ready to look and feel pretty for once in my life! So today I’m treating myself to a shopping spree with my non-rent/utilities Christmas money. Taking a break now to have a snack!

It’s largely been a huge success, but I went into Francesca’s because I like their aesthetic… but they’re very Not Fat Girl Friendly. As I was about to leave, an associate asked if they could help me, and I admitted that I just couldn’t find anything in my size that I was super fond of.

Her response, and I quote: “Well, all you’ve gotta do is drop some of that chub, and you‘ll find plenty of good stuff then!”

Lady, I appreciate your faith in the brand and your confidence in me, but telling customers they’re too fat to shop in your store isn’t the way to win repeat customers. :clara_ani_lili:

fashion is so much fun!!! at the beginning of high school i was going through a lot of emotional issues, so my entire wardrobe was gray t shirts and jeans because i was too afraid to wear something adventurous and have people look at me. in recent years i've been getting more and more adventurous with my clothes and i think its really made me happier and brought out the best in me. im so happy youre also exploring new fashions!!!

    but boo that francescas lady!!!

As a kid, my self-esteem used to be nonexistent, so I just lived in boyfriend jeans and hoodies when not in school (uniforms are the standard in the UK, which I hate but that's for a different discussion). When I went to my second college in 2013, I quickly discovered my fashion sense was completely out of the loop compared to other kids my age (this was when skinny jeans had completely taken over the wardrobes of younger Millenials and older Gen Zs), so I decided to look up what was actually trendy for my age group. Somewhere down the line, I discovered Tumblr alternative fashion (does anyone else remember the 'soft grunge' aesthetic? That was rad!) and everything snowballed from there lol.

Nowadays, I think I've settled into both a casual style influenced by hiking gear and early 2010s Tumblr, and a more formal style influenced by dark academia and 20s-40s vintage. (I'm totally aware they are completely different aesthetics, but that's just how I roll lol.) I can't say I'm liking the current trends of baggier jeans and 2000s throwbacks - they just take me back to a time when I hated myself and my appearance in particular. (Also, low rise jeans need to stay in the pits of hell where the belong!)

I'm skinny as hell, but I still have some sizing and sensory issues with certain pieces, especially jeans. (Why does denim have a tendency to feel like sandpaper against my skin? And why does this size 10 shirt fit more like an 8 on me?) Plus sizes in general have gotten better in the UK compared to ten years ago, but some brands still have a long way to go with inclusion, including petite sizing. And as a size 10/Medium, I wish I didn't have to play guessing games if a brand has weird sizing by British standards. (Do I size up to accommodate my chest? Or will this end up looking like a tent on me if I do?)
Had it not already been done with every single Chinese synth and probably every SynthV AI bank, I’d really, REALLY consider covering Super Idol (yes I know that’s not what it’s called, but I’m still learning it 😅). Memes aside, it’s genuinely a bop!

I’ll just have to stick to admiring it from afar. I really wanna use Haiyi again…

Y'know how sometimes, a parent-to-be has no idea how they'll feel about their baby, only to realize once it's in their arms that they love it more than anything and would die to protect it?

Yeah, this is like that, but way better. I am so glad I completed my collection!

So long as Yamato exists, I will never shit-talk Yuudai again.
Well @polyphonicprairies got me on KFP2, so now I have to share this with y'all: one of the holiest scenes in cinematic history, dubbed into Slovak. Y'all don't understand how HAPPY this makes me 😭

Maybe I'm biased, but as a connoisseur of KFP dubs, Slovak Tigress might be my new favorite, putting French Tigress at #2.

Ironically, English Tigress, iconic as she is, is my least favorite. No shade towards Ms. Jolie, she's excellent! But I feel like a lot of other dubs give her a more emotional delivery.

(No one's topped Jack Black's Po yet, though. Slovak Po sounds nice though, definitely another new favorite!)

why do the slavic languages make women sound so fucking powerful what the fuck
literally slovak tigress oozes pure POWER. WHAT THE FUCK.
On the bright side! I've been encoding my new KFP DVDs, and the Slovak dub is genuinely good from what bits and pieces I've seen! I can't wait to sit down and watch them through~ I've noticed a trend, though: in most foreign-language dubs, they go out of their way to make Tigress sound as ultra-feminine as possible. It's especially noticeable in the Mandarin dub (which admittedly I haven't seen in a while), in which her voice is higher and sweeter than Viper's even.

Given the sheer number of people who genuinely thought she was a guy before the first movie was released (myself included), I just like to imagine Dreamworks reaching out to all of these international studios saying "Hey, everyone thinks the tiger is a man, so make ABSOLUTE certain she sounds like a chick, okay?", and that's a mental image that amuses me a lot more than it probably should.
I've really enjoyed playing around with the language automation in SynthV! Saki's English is especially nice, and I can't wait to be able to fit Haiyi into English as well.

But the fandom reaction overwhelmed me, if I can be honest. It's... I dunno. I just wish we could have amazing new updates and features without it immediately turning into a frenzy of "Vocaloid is DEAD, Vocaloid fucking SUCKS, SynthV is the FUTURE and NOTHING ELSE matters", y'know? I saw more comments slamming Vocaloid and other editors (but mainly Vocaloid) following the trilingual update than people actually praising, y'know, the trilingual update itself.

So aside from dropping in here and there, I might try to keep my distance until the excitement dies down. It's better for my sanity in the long-run. :clara_ani_lili:

Honestly, I've kind of wanted to say something related to these kinds of things for awhile.

The thing is, this is a fandom, right? It's people who have one or more things that they love and want to experience that enjoyment in the presence of others who feel similarly. So for every vocal synth, there are both those who love it, and those who don't care for it.

Obviously, discussion of synths' relative merits, people's opinions, etc., are fine to have. But since we're all in an environment where someone who loves any given synth is basically always present, it's only polite to honestly make our best effort to do so in a way that avoids hurting one another as much as possible. I'm not entirely sure always what form that is; it's not always easy, and I'm sure there are instances where I've not succeeded. Offhand, I'd say it comes down to something like a combination of how we say/phrase things, and maybe focusing as much as possible on saying things that are objectively known to be true (as opposed to having our primary objective be to impugn whatever synth, or vent our spleen about it). And, of course, there's always the wisdom of Thumper the bunny: if you're in doubt, unless what you have to say really needs to be said, unless it will provide some real value to others, "If you can't say something nice, don't say nothing at all."

There's this weird tendency for people to assume that if they don't like [X] it's inherently underused when that's not the case at all, specifically in japan, among the "big 3", SynthV is easily the least popular choice. Also, historically, AHS had been the one predominantly pushing for SynthV in the japanese market but whenever the companies they tipically collaborate with, split off of them, to do their own thing, they had zero interest in SynthV, and I think that's telling.

And I feel like people should keep more grounded expectations for the cross-langue feature, as harsh as it sounds, it's not gonna be the great uniter of the 3 communities, besides having varying levels of popularity among the 3 communities, china and japan have their historical disputes and using chinese and japanese vbs interchangeably is not going to be a common occurance ( especially when SVS' jp/eng -->chn is the least convincing rn ) in the respective communities, other issue is accesibility, the catalogue of vbs is going to be scattered and mismatched among the 3 communities, chinese users will have trouble accesing some japanese and english voicebanks while english and japanese users will have trouble acessing some chinese voicebanks ( Quadimension's initial plan for distributing the AI vbs to already existing users didn't have overseas buyers on mind and Minus and Muxin had been Taobao exclusives this whole time ), lastly, while we like to cover songs in various languages and we have smaller catalogue of eng vbs which often gets complained about, the situation isn't the same for china and japan, I imagine this feature is way bigger of a drawn in for us rather than internationally.

And this isn't to undermine any of it's accomplishments, this is unrelated to it's capabilities,:but just a look at SVS' actual impact from different POV

Well, to be honest, even thiough I was harsh on V5, I wouldn't say vocaloid is dead at all because it's not because V5 has its flaws that the program is dead (I may understand Miku's jump onto her own program was surely more than a random move, but hey, at least they leave their Vocaloids banks up, even some copies from their V1/V2 eras can be sold tierh on crypton's site or on other sites)

It's like when I hear people being like "utau is deeeeeeeea because it's old and OpenUTAUn and DV were under the spotlight while... people keep on voicing voicebanks, otoing them, releasing them or holding them

Yes UTAU is old, but does that stop people from playing with it, and even composing originals with them ? Surely not

I wish people would avoid to say "x is great y sucks" while all of them are complimentary to each other
Patuk recently mentioned that her girlfriend got her a manga with her favorite Utau in it. That's great, that's great, but you know what? MY girlfriend sent me my favorite trilogy with Slovak, Czech, and Polish dubs (with additional European Portuguese, Turkish, and Hungarian dubs for the third movie).

    Top THAT.

    Patuuuuuuk I love yooooooooou

Popping back in to ask: how do we go about getting the Medium5 AI updates?
    Rylitah
    Rylitah
It seems like they've changed their mind about releasing them all at once since they want to make sure the AI updates are quality products - and they aren't even sure themselves how they're going to distribute the AI codes just yet either it seems (which makes me wonder what the original plan even was). So it seems we'll just have to wait for now!

edit: Turns out the Synth V wiki has all the information. Apparently the original plan was to have everyone manually contact Taobao and they'd confirm proof of purchase and send out the activations one by one, but now they're going to work on a better system.
"Kyomachi Seika's voicebank is being released on January 27th!"

"And so are the Tohoku's Neutrino ports and Talk banks."

"And now, here's some demos with Seika!"

"But no new demos for the Tohoku sisters."
With the collab done and done, I'm wondering what to move onto. I've got a few things in the works, if y'all will let me know what might be most interesting:
Thousand-Year Solo would easily take the longest due to the intensity of the tuning I'm doing for it, but I've been having lots of fun and would be happy to expand it to a full cover! Or maybe shorten it and set it to the Project Diva PV. Love Disease I could have done the fastest because I have the full SVP done and just need to tune it. But whatever I choose to focus on next, I'll have a good time!
The CUL Collab has been published! Another huge thank you to the tuners and illustrators. Y'all are astonishing!

Ya girl's comin' at'cha with another handmade and hella niche BokuMono meme!

(Look, I'll never not find memes whose text covers most of the image funny, okay?)
